This novella was originally published in The Blacksmith Brides novella collection.

Sparks fly when Meg McCracken enters Alexander Ogilvie's blacksmith shop. Attracted to the beautiful young woman from the start, he understands that her station in society is far above his, even though he has dreams of moving beyond the city and becoming a man of property.

He is handsome and endearing, but he's also a lowly blacksmith. That isn't the worst of it, however. How can Meg be attracted to a man whose position on a revolution is neutral and still face her Patriot father and brothers?

This author was new to me but her writing style was very good. She has historical content consistent with the time period. Meg and Alexander are both realistic and well-developed. The plot ran well and the ending was happy, leaving me with a desire to have a sequel to it following their journey over the mountains. I enjoyed reading this short novella.

This novella was originally published in The Blacksmith Brides collection. It was one of the most fun novellas I have written because it let me dip into Colonial America where I love to be. As well as Alexander and Meg's story, I introduced a couple of well-known historical figures with cameo appearances.

While everyone knows about the Patriots and Loyalists (or Tories) who peopled the colonies in the leadup to and during the Revolutionary War, lesser known are the Neutrals, those people who were not engaged in the geo-political fight of the day. Exploring that aspect of Alexander sparked my imagination. There may be another series down the road that will explore it further.

The author has a way of putting you in the colonies and you can feel the tension that will soon be unleashed by the Revolutionary War.

It was such a good story and I 🧡LOVED the background of the characters. One family fled Scotland, because they were branded traitors then decided to fight to keep the land they fled to, because they knew it could be better than being under British rule. Then you have Alexander's family whose father also left Scotland, but for a different reason.

The love story you can feel the chemistry and how much their lives mirrored the other despite different social statuses. They each didn't want the war. One didn't want the family involved and the other didn't want to join.

I 🧡LOVED the ending and was rooting for them both throughout the book.

I Highly recommend it, especially for history buffs and ones who want to feel like they are in the story.

The characters in this story tugged at my heart. Their love story kept me turning pages. The story offers a glimpse into those turbulent days leading up to the American Revolution. I felt the fear and tension as if I were there.

I’ve read several books by this author and will look for more. Recommend!

I received a copy of the book from the author or publisher and was not required to leave a positive review. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this story. As usual with a book written by Pegg Thomas, I learned a little more about American history. This book had a lot of feelings of the American people before the Revolution. There were some struggles about what was worth fighting for. Alexander found what was worth it for him, as everyone else had to. The story and the characters were great. I really enjoyed reading this book.

Worth Fighting For by Pegg Thomas

1774 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Meg McCracken does not want to hear anything more about the pending war. However, her father and brothers are set on going to war with fellow Patriots. To prepare for their departure, Meg goes to the local blacksmith shop and hires Alexander Ogilvie to make militia soldier kits for her father and brothers.

Alexander agrees to make the soldier kits for Meg. He would like to get to know her, but that’s not possible, he has plans to move to the Kentucke frontier. However, God may have other plans for them.

I enjoyed this novella. I chuckled at the scene by the river and the flying fish and mud accident. There are challenges to overcome, surprising twists and turns, forgiveness and faith. I enjoyed when Daniel Boone and Benjamin Franklin made an appearance. I read this novella when it was part of the Blacksmith Brides Novella collection and was happy to reread it.

~I received an e-book copy from the author/publisher via BookFunnel (no monetary gain was exchanged), this is my honest review~
