Steve Hudkins is a genius. His imagination is so fertile and produces stories ranging from spine tingling good old fashioned ghost stories to uniquely original twisted stories of human misdemeanours. The Beggar is easily one of the cleverest, mind provoking tales I have ever read. I also love the stories that are told from different viewpoints with totally unexpected consequences. Keep writing steve. You are a literary master craftsman.
This set of macabre tales was entertaining and engaging. An orphanage is delighted to receive a dollhouse with a set of figurines but the children experience unease. A grave robbery goes awry when the robber is rewarded with terror instead of treasure. A mansion has a dark history with visitors seeing a spectre. As always I enjoyed reading these terrifying tidbits which are original and varied.
The Begger was totally the bomb. All the stories were fun to read. But that one was awesome. The ending twist was the best ending in all the stories that I've read, and I read A LOT.
Hudgins has done it again. There are so many great scary stories. My favorites were The Mysterious Figurines, told from the perspective of five different observers, The Beggar, with so many plot twists in a short amount of time, and The Eerie Video Store. There are stories of deadly assumptions, which Hudgins always does so well. I love when he throws in some campy pop culture references, and we’re all in on his private joke. Can’t wait for volume 3!
It wasn’t as good as volume 1 and some of ten stories felt too similar to the first volume 50/50 split of ones I enjoyed and didn’t so 3 stars feels fair.
