Rate this book
Real Hero - Book 3: Shattered Alliances takes Dave and his team on a dangerous mission to South America, where a covert CIA operation has gone awry, leaving bodies in its wake and tensions on the rise. Tasked with cleaning up the mess, Dave and his team must extract evidence and recover the bodies of CIA operatives before the situation escalates into an international crisis. Their mission quickly becomes complicated when they discover that one of the agents, Sarah Moreau, is still alive, held captive by rogue militias.

As the team splits up to pursue two objectives—rescue Moreau and retrieve the bodies—their mission becomes a race against time. The Venezuelan military is on high alert, and the region is crawling with militias who won’t hesitate to escalate the conflict. Dave’s powers are pushed to their limits as he faces not only the physical challenges of the jungle but also the moral complexities of dealing with rogue factions and the consequences of American interference in foreign affairs.

Throughout the mission, tensions within the team simmer, especially as the clock ticks down. Serj, Omar, and Dan work covertly to retrieve the fallen agents’ bodies, navigating through heavily guarded compounds and avoiding detection. Meanwhile, Dave, Anya, and Alicia search for Moreau, whose condition worsens with every passing moment. The team must rely on each other, but trust and survival instincts are constantly tested.

The jungle setting adds an intense layer of danger, where every move could trigger a confrontation with hostile forces. Dave’s internal struggle grows, balancing his incredible abilities with the responsibilities they bring. The mission’s stakes aren’t just geopolitical; they’re personal, as the team battles not only external enemies but also their own doubts and the ever-present threat of failure.

Shattered Alliances delivers a high-octane, tension-filled narrative where action, suspense, and personal stakes collide. The novel explores themes of loyalty, power, and the moral ambiguities of covert operations, all while building toward an explosive conclusion.

A 57-year-old IT professional based in Milton Keynes, I have worked in IT for four decades, more recently developing systems to support behavioural analytics. My career in technology has allowed me to witness the evolution of data-driven solutions and complex infrastructure, reflecting my passion for problem-solving and innovation.

A lifelong reader, I often envisioned putting my imagination into writing. Recently, I took the leap, driven by the sheer joy of transforming the contents of my mind into words. I have a deep appreciation for comic books and graphic novels, as well as crime dramas and thrillers. While comic books are a visual art form, I relish how the written word allows me to craft my own images and interpretations within my head. "You write what you know" is an adage I take to heart; readers may notice echoes of my life experiences or familiar traits of people I’ve met woven into my stories.

Family is at the heart of my life. I’ve been married to my loving wife for 35 years, and together, we've raised two incredible sons who continue to make me immensely proud. Our shared love for Rottweilers has brought even more loyalty and warmth into our home, reflecting the strong bonds we value.

Ever wondered what would happen if Jason Bourne had Superman's powers while working through the Venezuela crisis? "Shattered Alliances" scratches that particular itch with style. This third instalment in the Dave Anderson series drops our super-powered protagonist into the heart of South American politics, and the result is as explosive as you'd expect.

What makes this book stand out is how it handles power dynamics – not just the physical kind that sends bad guys flying through walls, but the subtle kind that moves armies and topples governments. Dave might be bulletproof, but navigating international politics requires more than brute force, and watching him and his team thread that needle is half the fun.

The jungle setting breathes fresh air into the superhero spy genre, trading the usual urban landscapes for something wilder and more unpredictable. It's a smart move that adds natural tension to every scene – because when everything's trying to kill you, even a superhuman has to watch his step.

Without spoiling anything, let's just say the action hits hard, and the politics hit harder. Sure, there are moments when the geopolitical chess game gets a bit dense, but it's worth pushing through for the payoff. The author has clearly done their homework on Venezuelan politics, and it shows in the best possible way.

Bottom line: If you're tired of both simplistic superhero stories and dry political thrillers, "Shattered Alliances" offers something fresh – a smart, action-packed tale that respects your intelligence while still delivering the goods. Just maybe keep a map handy.

For fans of: The Bourne series, Tom Clancy's political thrillers, and superhero stories that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty with real-world complications.
