A laugh-out-loud revenge rom-com catering to the often ignored market of mature women.
The Golden Years Glitch follows 70-year-old firecracker Andi Parker, a successful businesswoman, devoted mother and so-fun grandmother. She is also looking forward to her golden years with her sexy silver fox husband, Jed.
I always enjoy reading books with strong female characters but this one was much more enjoyable for me because the main character is a feisty 70 year old. This book shows that it isn't just the 30 years old who have problems with marriage and sex and friendship. Andi has always known that she was strong woman but it took a major blow up in her marriage to learn how strong she really was and how she could find happiness on her own with the help of her friends.
I really liked Andi as a main character. As she began to change she tried lots of new things with her daughters and granddaughters -- from a mud filled obstacle course to a deep sea fishing trip that made all of them seasick. Her granddaughter even had a sweatshirt made for her that said Best Effin' Grandma to celebrate all of the changes that Andi was going through.
This book was an emotional book looking at an older woman who has to decide who she is and that she DOES deserve happiness on her own. Plus it's a laugh out loud book. Andi's friends care about her deeply but they also make her laugh. Their discussion when they went lingerie shopping was hilarious. Overall this was a fun book to read watching a 70 year old woman reclaim her strength and happiness in life.
I wish Andi Parker lived nearby. She's just the kind of person I'd love to hang out with-Best Effin' Grandma to her grandchildren, loyal friend, astute businesswoman, and up for everything from sliding through mud to deep sea fishing. In The Golden Years Glitch, Smith reminds us that you're never too old to live life to the fullest, and it's never too late to start over. This is a sparkling, sexy debut with a lot of heart and humor.
The Golden Years Glitch is a hilariously authentic and relatable tale of Andi, a loving mom and grandmother, who takes a huge sudden blow to her marriage. She navigates this with a business and her family support system while finding what it means to be 70, and what it means to be Andi.
I’m not in the same generation as the main character but Andi has been created with so much life that anyone can relate to (or wishes they could). She’s spunky and real and unapologetic, she celebrates ALL of life, even when other people might tell her to slow down because of her age.
This is an incredibly inspiring novel, to see Andi and her friends take on large adventures (mud run!! Deep Sea fishing!!! Starting new businesses!!!) while laughing in the face of age.
Would recommend it if you’re looking for a little revenge tale!! If you are more experienced at life, I feel like this would be 10x funnier and more relatable.
This book captures what it means to start fresh at any age. I especially loved the friendship between these women and the reminder that empowered women truly do empower women.
And for the record—I did wonder if Andi should have poisoned Jed’s White Russian!
