Wrongly attributed to Jan de Witt; in fact by Pieter de la Court. A translation of 'Aanwissing der heilsams politike Gronden en Maximen van de Republike van Holland', 1669, a revised and enlarged edition of 'Interest van Holland' published in 1662 without his consent, and with alterations and the addition of two chapters (hoofdstukken) and part of another by Johan de Witt. Cf. Van der Aa, Biog. woordenb. III. (1858) p. 787-789, and Fruin, R. Aandeel van de Witt aan het 'Interest can Holland' de Frds, 1865, II, 459 (NUC). About the author

Pieter de la Court was a Dutch economist and businessman. He pioneered modern thinking about the economic importance of free competition and was an uncompromising advocate of a republican form of government.

In addition to his political works he also authored several works of fiction in which he incorporated many similar arguments.
