The 10th anniversary edition of the ABIA award-winning novel from bestselling author Rachael Johns, with new epilogue!
How can four sisters build the futures they so desperately want, when the past is reaching out to claim them?
When the Patterson daughters return home to Meadow Brook to be with their father after their mother's death, they bring with them a world of complication and trouble.
The eldest sister, obstetrician Madeleine, would rather be anywhere but her hometown, violinist Abigail has fled from her stellar career, while teacher Lucinda is struggling to have the children she and her husband so desperately want. The black sheep of the family, Charlie, feels her life as a barista and exercise instructor doesn't measure up to that of her gifted and successful sisters.
Dealing with their bereft father who is determined to sell the family motel, their loves old and new and a series of troublesome decisions doesn't make life any easier, but when they go through their mother's possessions and uncover the shocking secret of an old family curse, they begin to question everything they thought they knew.
A warm and wise novel about secrets revealed, finding your soulmate and the unique bond between sisters.
I was so excited when I opened a package from HarperCollins and found, The 10th Anniversary edition of the Patterson Girls, by Rachael Johns as I have loved her other titles that I have read so far (and am incredibly happy that there are a number on her back catalogue for me to read!)
The Patterson Girls is a great, warm read set in country South Australia. Four sisters head back home to spend Christmas with their father. The first Christmas since their mother passed away. While they are there, they are given the task of going through their mother’s things and come across some old wedding cards, where one mentions, "The Patterson Curse". Is it real? And if so, will it impact their own lives?
This book follows the stories of all four sisters, stretching from London to Baltimore, Melbourne to rural South Australia. THis book actually heads in a totally different direction then what I initially thought it would, but I was hooked to see what happened to each sister next. The dynamics between the sisters and their loved ones were at times heartbreaking but also heartwarming.
Also, I do have to mention that the brand new epilogue that Rachael Johns has written for the 10 Year Anniversary Edition is just absolute perfection.
If you are looking for a cosy read to curl up with during the Winter, I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you so much to @harpercollins and @rachaeljohns for the gifted copy.
3.5 stars I thought i was going to love this book. I am a bit disappointed that I couldn't really get into the storyline. it had very good reviews. I found it to be a tad slow & way too long. The first 100+ pages was hard to try work out which sister was who as their were 4 of them. I think this is a book my mum would really enjoy. Spice - next to none
Absolutely loved this book could not put it down. Beautiful story of sisters and the ups and downs of life. I had tears some laughter and some OMG moments. Highly recommend.
I loved how the sisters were all over the world living their lives, yet there was something that each girl was going through. It was interesting to see shame and secrets that they kept to manage perceptions of themselves to their family.
Each of the characters were unique but had similar problems that they were hesitant to confide with each other. The rules to life that Aunt Mags shared is really insightful and was a good point of reflection.
All in all, this book had me thinking about aspects of my life too.
