James Rice is widely recognized as the South's leading author/illustrator of children's books. He is the author and illustrator of Cowboy Alphabet, Cowboy Night Before Christmas, and Texas Jack at the Alamo . He is best known for his Christmas titles, including Cajun Night Before Christmas . He also created the Gaston the Green-Nosed Alligator series. James Rice, born in Texas, studied art at the University of Texas and Stephen F. Austin College. For many years he taught art and music at schools in Texas and Louisiana. He is also an accomplished clarinetist and sculptor.

This book tells the story of how the sport rodeo came to be. The story is told by a jack rabbit figure who gives insight into how each sport inside rodeo came to be. This is a good book to read to children because it gives the history of rodeo but also makes learning fun through the rabbits’ voice and comments.
