Jazmine Toussaint’s return has thrown the entire Toussaint family into chaos. Everything they thought they knew was a lie. Boston is preparing for her biggest blessing yet—a baby—but she can’t seem to escape the drama of her past. In her moments of despair, she leans on her new friend X, but Peace isn’t feeling her new friendship, leaving Boston wondering if their marriage will survive when the smoke clears.
Maia is in the fight of her life for Kalvin—and for her sanity. Kygo refuses to let her go, doing everything he can to keep her under his control. Promise vowed to be her knight in shining armor, and while Maia wants to let him slay her demons, handing over that much power to a man is out of her comfort zone. If she doesn’t learn to let go, she could lose everything.
Meilani risked her marriage for her father, stole from her husband, and destroyed her life in the process. The pain is overwhelming, and the struggle feels endless, but Nano is right there, ready to lend a hand. His comfort is so real, so deep, that it might just pull her into a space neither she nor Yaseer want her to go.
Masami took the brunt of her father’s deceit. With him on the run and her mother back, she’s forced to confront her past—even the things she did to help her father, and it cuts deep. When she crosses paths with Ossa’s childhood friend Ariz, she’s stunned and intrigued. She always had a quiet crush on him, but now he’s all man and coming for a part of her that even Lyfe couldn’t reach. Masami has to decide how much of herself she’s willing to give, and if letting him in is worth the risk of loving again.
In the fourth installment of the Toussaint Mafia Series, the family will be tested in unimaginable ways. You’ll witness their fight to do right, but their good intentions might just get lost in the chaos. Now introducing Misunderstood..
So here is my well-thought-out review. We begin with the Toussaint family attempting to rebuild after the havoc that Carols caused. I mean, he left the family vulnerable and exposed to contempt from not just the mafia but also the community. I'll admit that when I first started reading book 4, I forgot about the characters, but everything started returning to me as I went on. The anxiety I felt from all of the secrets and the intensity as we followed the Toussiant family returned. Promise and Yasser had me giggling and flinging my phone whenever a chapter featuring them arrived. I will add that the sisters Masami, Melanie, Maia, and Boston have all found happiness with the men in their lives. I failed to see the bond between Masami and her romantic partner. I believe her relationship with Lyfe was written better. I liked this series at first and was looking forward to seeing Carlos' fate, but I was disappointed. His death was underwhelming and disappointing in light of all he had done. His ass deserved to have been tormented. I mean this was driving us crazy for THREE BOOKS STRAIGHT and he gets off that easily. Idk the author was so creative with his character that the same thought should have been put into his death. I will say that the aftermath of his death aided the character development of each of the Toussaint ladies.
The reason for my three-star ratings .... If I wanted to buy a physical copy of this book, the epilogue RUINED it for ME. Yes, we received closure for the Toussiant family that we all read about, but inserting Brooklyn seems unnecessary. The way it was written seems rushed and spontaneous, especially because we already knew about her halfway through the story. She should have been revealed at the end. ( I'm slightly bored of the secret siblings who keep popping out this year. I hope writers understand that it's okay to simply wrap up a series with the characters you began with. You don't have to make spin-offs based on your readers' favorite characters; you can always start from scratch). If I do read the next book, I'll wait till the series is complete because I'm not convinced right now.
We can finally express these words and the intended sentiment rings true! Carlos Toussaint has been wreaking havoc on his children and the mafia world probably since he could talk. The unanimous consensus is that he should be unalived in the most brutal way possible. And yet, we continue to be subjected to this man’s foolishness!!!
The Toussaint children have reached what feels like rock bottom after Carlos has burned them for what seems to be the last yet most extreme time. Now they are left fighting court cases, DEA raids, murder charges, 🗣️ You name it!! Now more than ever these siblings must ban together and hope they can resuscitate the Toussaint name that at this point, has lost its power and effect on those that it used to pump fear into.
There must have been a running theme of holding the most anxiety ridden secrets close to the chest in an effort to give readers a heart attack! My blood pressure was running rampant for a good 50% of the book waiting for secrets to be revealed. Meilani’s secret alone nearly took me out and let’s just say Yasser’s reaction hurt MY feelings 🥴🫠
The Marceline brothers can do no wrong in my eyes and even though there was a last minute MMC change for one of the sisters, I still enjoyed her new boo (just not as much as the old one🫣)!
There were a few missed opportunities for me after reading.
Brooklyn was an unnecessary addition to the story. As excited as I am about who her love interest will be in the spin off / continuation, she added absolutely nothing to the story. I think had she been kept a complete secret even on page until a big reveal at the end that would made for a more compelling and dramatic effect. Because we knew about her mid way, I spent a lot of time focused on when her existence would be revealed and then when it happened, it fell pancake flat.
Carlos’s demise was extremely underwhelming. For as much trouble as this 🥷kept up, he deserved way worse. He deserved to be chained to a board and for everyone to take a turn with the weapon of their choosing. He ruined wayyyy toooo many lives to get that janky tail death!
Maxine was a snake but didn’t get called out why? We know she wasn’t loyal to Jazmine and that her and her heaux tale daughter were for the streets yet it was never exposed and gave Jazmine and everyone else the false illusion that she had genuine motives when she didn’t. We also got no back story about how the pop up at the spa came about and that was a miss for me.
One thing I can appreciate is that even though Dominique took time away for personal reasons, the characters still felt very familiar and their growth was evident. This was a decent “conclusion” to the series and even though there seems to be a spin off in the making, this book overall left me feeling satisfied with how things most were resolved. I would have liked to see more details fleshed out with certain character’s but this is where we are. I’m very much looking forward to the next book based off the MMC alone because what we did get of him in this series I absolutely loved!
🎶🎵"You give good love to me, baby So good, take this heart of mine into your hands You give good love to me" 🎶🎵
First off this is my song. Second when it came on the page it felt like this was the perfect song to describe the way the mmcs loved the Touissant girls. I was enthralled with them in the second book and that feeling continued into this one.
In this book I was looking for BIG love, secrets revealed, and death. We got some of that...
The story opens up with the Touissant family falling from their throne, being stripped of their status because of underhanded ish Carlos was on. He was chilling in the cut while his children lost their homes and businesses. He stayed true to being the piece of trash that he was and he eventually gets exactly what he deserved. While the act was anticlimactic I do like who committed it, I just felt like it needed some fireworks after all the ish he put them through, but that's just me. Nobody got to confront him??😒
The men were serving all the BDE. Peace really evolved to me. He was not playing about being everything that Boston needed. He was patient, kind, and soft and I appreciated the way he handled her. His unruly azz was really her peace.
Promise was so observant when it came to Maia. He poured into her and helped her understand that perfection was unrealistic and that it was okay to feel. I loved how he embraced her relationship with Kalvin and took care of anyone trying to do her harm. These brothers were sexy af. I was hella side eyeing their mother, but the energy they gave was loud and strong.
Yaseer definitely had the "Don" energy. He was very much in love with Meilani, his dream girl. When the secrets were revealed he was so hurt and he ain't have no problem giving that energy right back. I understood it because it seemed like the people he loved were always on some shady ish. Their slow progression back together was sad, but I appreciated how Mei rode for his family regardless.
It felt like Imani has more of a presence than Ossa in this book. Ossa gave subcharacter vs main character energy. That could have flowed better.
Ariz was unexpected and I honestly didnt care for this pairing 🤷🏾♀️ Masami was such a boss babe, it just felt like she should've had someone with that big boss energy. However, I also get being attracted to the opposite. Masami low-key got on my nerves...I mean I love that you a rider, but ma'am it's okay to hold your sisters accountable sometimes. As Lyfe pointed out she had a lot of audacity with how she handled Ariz, when she had her own flaws too.
Lastly, there were still secrets that were not revealed... The lack of introduction to Brooklyn was mishandled. That ish was dragged to the nth power. Her trauma was swept under the rug and I'm trying to understand how Jazmine and Davido didn't have guards on her after that?🤔 The math wasn't mathin to me. I called a possible connection to her love interest early on, but with her never being on page I thought I was wrong. Even though it didn't flow well I am very much intrigued, but also iffy on where her story will go. She was giving very immature while her love interest was giving extremely mature... I also felt like I needed more from Jazmine, she was actually the one I was left wondering about after the last book. Idk the way her story unfolded was underwhelming to me.
After all those pages I was still left wanting more. It felt like the characters were fighting for time. The flow could have been better and we are still left with a lot of secrets. 3.5 stars- It was better than mid.
Just when I thought the series was about to be wrapped up, we discover that it’s not lol whewwwww ok Misled book #5 coming soon .
Overall I did enjoy the book & the series. Finally Carlos ass is 💀. Did I want him to die a very painful and slow death. Yessssssss! Did we get that? NO but 🤷🏽♀️😂
I’m glad the sisters are with their mens living HEA. Ossa with Imani and his family.

Masami and Ariz………. Why?! Team Lyfe. It felt random to bring in Ariz without him being mentioned in Misguided. Would have made more sense to introduce him as Ossa’s best friend. I hate that she didn’t end up with Lyfe.
The Nano and Meilani pump fake. I’m not going to lie, I wanted to see more come from that and see more of Nano and his story. (He would be great for Brooklyn) X seems super mature and older and Brooklyn is obviously younger than Boston.
Carlos……I needed a full description of his demise.
How is Rocco not dead???
I had the pleasure of reading this series late so every book was avail. It was enjoyable and it’s clear Dominque is not pen rookie because this story kept me locked in. I will admit this last installment missed the mark on some things, it was still an extremely solid read. I will def be reading the next.
I liked the fact that the book started off filling some holes that were left opened in the previous books!!!! It’s a good ending to a very dramatic series 😂😂😂The growth of the Toussaint children was noticeable and felt. Seeing all the ways the made improvements for themselves , I liked the a lot. My favorite thing is the each Toussaint child found a mate that mended all those broken things that their childhood and upbringing forced on them.
My fav is Yasser and Promise !!! Yasser my guy, he had me sitting in the edge of my seat, I just knew he was gonna do something but the way he remained clam(for himself) Love it. Promise he just made my heart melt with his determination and the way he showed affection
In this book the skeletons came out of the closet ! They were forced out, voluntarily came out, and came out as a surprise. The ending of book 2 and the beginning of this book had me so shocked! As this book progressed you could see that so many people were weighed down by their own secrets and the secrets they were keeping for others. No one wanted to be outed so the secrets were like currency to the very evil people who were the keepers. What were these secrets worth to those who never wanted them to be revealed? The answer is a lot! Some were so burdened by the secrets that they told on themselves, while others took them to their graves. I will say this, them Tousaint girls had some good men Savannah! I’m glad they recognized it and changed themselves accordingly. Real love is a beautiful thing. Now we wait for the secret sister and her story.
First let me say throughout this whole series I have loved Ossa and Promise. The confidence a man has to not only be faithful, caring and considerate to his woman, while daring anyone to treat him as anything less than that dude is rare people think it only exists in fairytales.... Now on the Spawn Of Satan, Carlos. I never hated a character so bad. Even in a movie. I'm so happy the Toussaint siblings are starting to work through and heal from the trauma Carlos inflicted on them so they see what real love, peace and happiness looks like. Can't wait for the next book to find out if they let that progress go down the drain because of MISPLACED anger. Carlos is and will forever be a spawn of Satan in my eyes. And Revvy, tuh the nerve of that sucka...
I have really enjoyed this series and I was waiting patiently for this last book. Unfortunately, this one felt underwhelming to me. My main gripe is what happens with Carlos. I'm sure all readers of this series have been waiting for the day he meets his end. Well, although we get that in this book - it didn't do it for me. As much drama and trauma he brought to everyone's life, an on-page unaliving was what I needed. It happened very quickly and then..that was it.
Aside from that, I'm not really sure how I feel about the introduction of Brooklyn however, I'm invested and will check out her story.

OMG! That ending though. This book was well written, flowed well and kept my attention. Carlos Toussaint was a complete poor excuse for a father and man. He used his daughters to get whatever he wanted regardless of if they wanted to or who would get hurt. Jazmine shows back up and all of the Toussaint siblings, except Boston was slow to welcome her back into their lives. Eventually they all came around, only to be hit with another secret. I absolutely adored the love and treatment that the girls received from their husbands. I can’t wait for the next book. My only regret is that it took me too long to finish this book!
Chileeeeeeeeee when I tell u was pressed for this book to come out hunni n I was not disappointed I knew it was gonna be X n Brooklyn b4 I read the epi it hit me when he had that convo with Boston so I can’t wait for Misled but back to this one when I tell u Promise n Yassir did it for meeeeeeee with Ariz coming in third this one summed up everything in a great closing out what needed closure n opening the door for the next chapter I know Osaa wanna be Dn but I like Yassir in thar position n if Ossa get the position I hope nothing negative happens to Yassir or Mei
MISSNEVERMISS!!! Wow, this series has been a great joy to read. Filled with emotions, laughter, compassion, anger, and chemistry. I love these characters as much as I love the Matin family. And that’s saying a lot because they are still my favorites after almost 10 years. This book was everything and more. I will be rereading this book again please read this series, it’ll take you to the old days as if you’re watching a movie or TV series, full pace, drama, action, and mafia content!! 10/10!!
I really enjoyed catching up with the Toussaint gang. The girls and Ossa had endured so much and truly did deserve true love. I’m glad that Mei and Yaseer made it with his mean butt. I love Misami but she irked me when it came to Ariz, like girl you was doing the same thing to Lyfe. Jazz didn’t give up on her babies and I’m so glad she didn’t. Overall great read and I’m so looking forward to Misled.
I was hesitant to read Misunderstood, but I enjoyed it. Yaseer, Promise, & Peace were just *chef’s kiss*. My most anticipated secret was Mei’s and it didn’t disappoint. Now Carlos’s final moments, lame, and I’ll leave that there. I’m happy the Touissant girls were able to find happiness after the ruin their father caused. I wish Jazmine would stop withholding truths! Brooklyn & X will be interesting and I’m invested at this point so I’ll stay for the next ride.
Leaving a little more detail so I can recall my thoughts when I read Brooklyn’s story in misled! I’m looking forward to more from this family. I read all the other books back to back and had certain impressions of the couples and daughters. I forgot all of them🤣 before this book came back. My heart really resonated with Jasmine in this one!
Dominique has become one of my favorite authors. I love how Misunderstood turned out. Giving us closer on old villians all while introducing new ones! I can not wait for the next installment. All the finger snaps on this series !! I also love the way Dominique is adding God into the lives of these gangsters!!!! Everyone needs His touch in their lives!
Behaviors taught from parental guidance rather honesty or deception during childhood can be hard to pivot from. Walk in productivity not in fear for when we’re afraid dominance will take advantage of your vulnerability however when you walk in productivity the dominance person will not be aware of your weakness or strength.
One thing about life is this…as long as you live, it keeps lifein! The wait was due to uncontrollable circumstances-I send continuous prayers & I must say boi did give us the Dom! I enjoyed how everything came together & loved this series from 1-4 & can’t wait to see what’s next to come! She delivered as always!
The Toussaints are back. I patiently waited for this book and wasn't disappointed at all. Do I want more, of course. 😆 This family has been through a lot, and to see them come out on top is delightful.
I needed this book . I needed the people that reappeared to come back and the ones whom disappeared to stay gone . Babies, marriages and secrets . Hopefully Misled will tie up all the loose ends.
It was refreshing to watch the Toussaint children bloom further! This book offered some closure to certain situations, which I can appreciate. It was refreshing to see the girls pull more from their feminine energy. This was well written and very engaging
I was so mad at how this series was released 😂🤣😂 you could’ve cooked an egg on me lol but I must give credit where it’s due. This is a well written series. I love The Toussaints down 😍
This was a really good series , now book 3 took you back to Ossa and Imani's story so we get to see their love story together. But I loved all 4 books can't wait for book 5
I was a wait but well worth it. I done understand why Jasmine chose to keep Brooklyn a secret. She didn’t learn from her 1st mistake anyway can’t wait.
