Earth Wisdom by Jan Hornford is one of those books that gently opens your heart and mind at the same time. From the very beginning, it made me slow down, breathe, and really think about how disconnected I had become from nature and even from myself. The author has such a calm and peaceful way of writing that it feels like she’s sitting beside you, talking as a friend or a guide. The whole tone of the book is comforting and full of gentle encouragement.
What I loved most is that Hornford doesn’t make anything too complicated. She takes spiritual ideas from Druidic and Shamanic traditions and makes them understandable for everyday people. You don’t have to already know anything about these paths she walks you through them step by step. The sections about connecting with trees, honoring the seasons, and finding your personal power animal were beautiful. I actually tried some of the exercises, like spending quiet time near a tree and just observing and listening, and it really changed how I felt.
Even though I live in a busy area with not much greenery around, I still found ways to apply what she teaches. I started noticing the little things the wind, the sky, birdsong and realized how much peace they bring. The book helped me remember that nature is always around us, even in small ways. It’s not just about being outdoors, it’s about tuning in and being present.
Hornford’s words also encouraged me to trust my intuition more. I’ve started paying attention to how I feel and what my heart tells me, instead of always rushing or overthinking. That part alone has been life-changing. This isn’t just a nature book it’s a guide to rediscovering your balance, calm, and connection with life itself. I’ll definitely reread it again, especially as the seasons change.
Earth Wisdom is more than just a book it’s an experience. Each chapter felt like a gentle nudge toward remembering what really matters. Jan Hornford’s writing style is warm and full of compassion, like she’s sitting across from you sharing stories over tea.
I appreciated how the book bridges the gap between spiritual teachings and everyday life. The steps she shares like connecting with your power animal or honoring the cycles of nature are easy to try and surprisingly powerful. I never realized how grounding it could feel to take a simple walk with intention or to mark the change of seasons with a small personal ritual.
This book helped me reconnect not only with the earth, but also with myself. I’ve become more mindful, more patient, and more grateful. It reminded me that peace doesn’t have to come from somewhere far away it’s right here, in the world around us.
If you’re someone who feels disconnected or lost, this book will gently guide you back to your center. It’s comforting, wise, and full of heart. Definitely a 5-star read for anyone seeking a more balanced and meaningful life.

Jan Hornford weaves together Druidic and Shamanic traditions in a way that feels deeply spiritual but still easy to understand. I loved how she connects each element of nature to our emotions and personal growth. Her reflections on trees, animals, and the changing seasons really opened my heart.
After reading this, I’ve started to notice signs and synchronicities all around me a bird crossing my path, the way the light shifts during sunset, the quiet energy of a rainy day. The book helped me see those things not as coincidences, but as reminders that nature is always communicating with us.
It’s one of those rare books that stays with you long after you finish it. I feel lighter, more grounded, and more in tune with myself and the world. A truly beautiful read that I’ll treasure for a long time.
I’ve read many books about nature spirituality, but Earth Wisdom stands apart for its clarity and practicality. Hornford doesn’t just talk about connecting with nature she shows you how. The sections on honoring the seasons and uncovering your power animal were particularly insightful. I followed her instructions for creating a seasonal altar, and it has become a powerful grounding ritual that keeps me attuned to natural cycles.
What I loved most is that this isn’t a book about escapism or fantasy. It’s about remembering that nature’s wisdom is always around us even in the city. I now find myself noticing birdsong on my commute and the phases of the moon outside my window. These small changes have completely shifted my energy and mindfulness. A must-read for anyone seeking balance and inner peace in a chaotic world.
I received this book from a giveaway! So thank you for the opportunity to read it. It was an interesting read. And informative on the steps. Some of it got a little to for lack of a better word “woo” for me but everybody is entitled to their own beliefs. It is a wonderful way to look at things and opens up your senses off of screens and what is in your head to the vast world around you in nature. I took away some awesome ideas on ways to disconnect and would be a great resource for some looking to get into druidry.
