Review for the

I think I've found my new favourite sci-fi series. With nods to Brave New World and echoes of 1984, this book brings a modern perspective to the classics. The characters are intriguing; the world is familiar yet foreign; and the story is captivating. I can't believe it ended where it did - I kept trying to find more pages just in case! This definitely makes my top ten of 2024, and I am so excited to read more.

Furthers the tales of Mac, Ditz, Yoshiko the kids from
Book one who make it into Cambridge as “techs”. Other minor characters from first book featured more heavily in this one - Dex and Gibson (with no reminder of what their roles are at Cambridge so was confusing). Schmidt featured again in this book. Characters remain shallow and annoying. Bought this one (despite thinking book one was poorly written) as end of book one implied it was set in Glasgow. Not the case. Mac makes it to Glasgow in one of the final chapters.
Most interesting part of story line was the robot “Dan”. The only character I like and want to do well!

Middle books in a series are always the worst. So much filler just to get to the end - which is really just the beginning of the next book. This book doesn’t have a stand alone ending- or beginning. I must remind myself not to read series books anymore- not my thing.
