I'm giving this four stars because I really enjoyed the storyline which was interesting and kept me engaged. A fun story, but the writing/editing was/were ~off~.
Characters' speech and some behaviors are heavily cliche'-laden (lesbian one-liners). Poor editing and confusing contradictions (possibly editing issues) were very distracting and, at times, made me rant. Frequent sloppiness. Also, a big weakness was the attempt to capture dialect, apparently only used with African-American characters (???)... Actually quite uncomfortable as the author too-frequently employed stereotypical phrasing; and, too often, characters seemed to "forget" their dialect and slip into the Queen's English.
3.5 stars. The author put a lot of thought into the background of the family, the paranormal world, and the supporting characters. Having a love interest as a ghost was pretty unique and Denny is an interesting, strong character. I enjoyed the read. I felt like the ending was rushed some, especially regarding Denny's girlfriend. It made me curious as to what happens in the next book.
I really tried to keep going with this story but the writting style isn't helping, it feels to me like an amateur fanfic making the story lacking of the appeal i look for.
