This novel is set in Territorial Kansas around
the 1870's. Lawlessness was abundant, and
the duties of sheriffs and marshals were
dangerous.
The murders of U.S. Marshals were faster than
the U.S. Marshal Service could badge another
marshal. To alleviate this problem, they
badged a tough proven sheriff with years of
experience.
The new marshal is exceptionallly successful
but his duties overshadow his relationship to
a beautiful woman breaking this relationship
resulting in his resignation as marshal.
He marries a cattle ranch owner and has a
son who follows in his fathers footsteps as
sheriff and marshal only experiencing many
more exciting adventures. His duties
overshadow his relationship to a woman as
his fathers did. Only this time with a different
result.
