Genre: Urban Mystery
NVBT Rating: 3.5

We seldom give book reviews but this book is an interesting read. Derek takes a new spin on mystery. Madeline, his main character, is a straight-forward, intelligent female detective that goes undercover to solve a sex crime. Along the way she encounters a possible love interest, personal struggles with whether to move on after the death of her husband and how to catch the killer that's preying on young sorrority girls.

I had a few concerns. The books took several chapters to pull me in. It's very graphic. And I noticed a few errors.

However, I'd strongly recommend hanging in there because the story that unfolds is one that you shouldn't miss.

Trapped in the web of a work-a-holic mom, an mentally broken college student, and two of Michigan's most notorious cases, you will not be disappointed by Mr. Vitatoe's freshman novel. When one of Detroit's finest is sent undercover to capture "The Midwest Strangler", there is no telling if she will make it out alive. From page to page readers will be left guessing as to what may happen next. Derek has taken the essence of a traditional murder mystery and mixed it with an urban edge, that will leave readers craving a sequel.

I've been sitting on this book for a while because I don't really care for the mystery genres. But it was still a good read even though the language seems a bit dated. It read like an episode of Law and Order, even though it drag in a lot of places.

WOW! You never know what someone has gone through in the past that affects their future. We should all sit and listen before we start pointing blame.
