About the author

Dr. Julie Smith is a trailblazer in large-scale organizational behavior change, with a knack for achieving “mission impossible.” As a co-founder of ALULA, a premiere behavior-based strategy execution firm, her methodologies, backed by decades of successful case studies with top-tier clients, have earned global acclaim. She then founded Performance Ally after family members experienced life-changing healthcare events caused by human error. Recognizing the difficulty of establishing even the simplest behaviors as habits, especially in healthcare settings, Performance Ally developed a “pocket coach” that provides the same personalized behavior-change guidance offered by seasoned organizational behavior consultants. Their enterprise application, Ally Assist, simplifies the behavior-change journey, making the science of organizational habit formation accessible to all companies, large or small.

I consider books that can be applied across disciplines or sectors to prove to be the most valuable. Vital Behavior Blueprint, authored by Julie Smith, PhD and Lori Ludwig PhD to be no exception. Vital Behavior Blueprint is a five-step process that includes Behavior-Powered Results, Key Performer Groups, Vital Behaviors, Ally Feedback Loops and three pillars for building habits. Sectors included that utilize the foregoing Vital Behavior Template include Business, Hospice Care, Education, Health Care Providers, Parents, and Auto Service Technicians. Vital Behavior Blueprint comes with my highest reccommendation for any organization seeking to improve its performance. Bravo!

"Vital Behavior Blueprint" is a practical guide with 5 steps for embedding mission-critical habits into your organization. Not only do you learn about the steps but then you walk through examples of how two different companies applied the habits to become more successful.

The book ends with a quote that you would not have believed when you started the book, "Achieving organizational behavior change is easier than achieving individual behavior change." This is true because of the motivational factors that are put in place in the organization when you use the 5 steps outlined in the book.

This was an excellent book! Many times non-fiction writers will spend time outlining the key concepts and leave it up to the reader to figure out how to implement, but not with this book. It provides an equal amount of information on the concepts, provides step by step guidance on how to implement, and then provides detailed case studies on organizations that have successfully implemented Vital Behavior Blueprints. This is a book that will become a field manual for how I approach behavior change with my teams.
