Where do I begin? Ugh! I'll start out with the positives... the storyline was interesting and the events that took place kept me on my toes waiting to see what happened next! The ending was awesome.
Now to the negatives... *big sigh* I hate giving bad reviews, but this book pushed me to my limit. The TYPOS had me so close to throwing my kindle its not even funny. Now I understand humans make mistakes and things get over looked but damn near EVERY OTHER page had a typo. I just couldn't! Microsoft Word wold have caught most of those SIMPLE mistakes. Ugh! And the inconsistencies... smh... really? Okay the first one I found was that the author mentioned in the first chapter that Sydney mentioned she was married 4 years then in the third chapter she said 5 years, mind you the chapters took place minutes apart (between dinner and the drive home a year took place? not likely). Another inconsistency was towards the ending, I don't want to give too much away so I will just say the 'pain' in Brian's shoulder from the party scene somehow jumped to his leg in the epilogue.
If I had to judge the book off of the storyline alone it would get four stars but with the errors and goof ups I had to knock it down to two.
I will give the author another chance in the future but I can not recommend this read to anyone.
Jake and his fiancée Tiara are the rookies in the league. Tiara is trying to fit in with the other wives, and then she finds out that her husby to be wants her to sign a prenup. Isn't her love enough? Just as Jake and Tiara are bickering about money, Jake's past is causing trouble. Can Jake and Tiara work out their issues?
Brittany is a shopaholic and Trey just wants her to be happy. Brittany finds out that someone is trying to blackmail her man. He promises her that he'll get things under control, and nothing or no one will ever threaten their financial security. Trey may not be able to deliver everything he promised.
Sydney and Brian are the veterans in the group. Married the longest, the two appear to be filled with happiness. What people don't know is that Brian is possessive which causes Sydney to act out. When Sydney's secrets start bursting at the seams, is she prepared to deal with the consequences?
I really had high hopes for this story. I wanted Dehvine to throw caution to the wind and stay away from the typical name brand dropping, shopping girlfriends and the price tag approach. The story is really uneven in respects to Brittany and Trey's story, even to the point that in one instance they are dating and the next they are married. Clearly there are a lot of inconsistencies and editing issues. Another example, at 25% the book says that a character is called Pupil. At 70% the same character is called Madam.
The plot of the book was a good idea. You follow the lives of three "couples" Jake & Tiara, Brittany & Trey, Brian & Sydney and one stalker named Celeste. You wonder if this is what the real "Basketball Wives" are like behind the scenes. The issue for me was that the storyline jumped from one place to the next and sometimes I was lost in transition. There were a few spelling/grammatical errors that sort of distracted from the flow of the story. I ended up having to read a few sentences back to figure out what the Author was referring to. This story really could have been off the chain but in my opinion the author didn't capitalize on the story by expanding the character depth or the plot (s). It was a good story but too short and it lacked clarity in areas. So, I will give it three stars because while I enjoyed the idea of the book....the things mentioned above wouldn't allow me to consciously give it a four star rating.
I thought this was an ok read. It was filled with a ton of drama, and definitely reminded me of the show Basketball Wives. The storyline kept me interested in reading more, but because it is short some things were missing which was understandable. I thought though that the author pulled everything together nicely with the limited number of pages. The Sydney storyline was definitely unexpected. That was really the only shocker for me in the book. When Sydney's character was first presented, I in no way figured she would turn out the way she did. The whole Jake/Celeste drama was predictable...I saw that one a mile away, as well as Trey's secret. It was pretty obvious what his secret was by the way the author described his "secret". Overall the entertainment value was high, and I wouldn't mind reading more from this author.
I'm actually changing my review. I had originally given it 4 stars but after reading the sequel as well as other books by the author, my opinion changed.
The story was very juicy. I couldn't wait to read the 2nd one to get answers to all the unanswered questions. The problem was in the sequel, it did not answer any of those questions and only left me with more. My main issue was the author seemed to forget some of the character's backgrounds. An example would be the author stating one of the character's was married. In the same chapter she then said the character was just a girlfriend. A few chapters later, the character was married again. That was extremely frustrating. I noticed these kinds of errors in all of the other books I have read by the author.
I would have loved to read a little more of what was going to happen to both Brittany's relationship and Tiara's as well. I also wanted to know what was going to happen to the other girl Sydney. The story was too short for me. But, it was still a good read.
