Tempess Perkins is the youngest of four sisters. Yet, she’s up on her game as much as the rest of them. Sweet or sassy, she plays her part and gets what she wants. The mark she claims as boyfriend is none the wiser… until a setup to rob him goes left and leaves her facing a bullet with him behind the trigger. A survivor by nature, Tempess manages to escape death and swear her sisters to secrecy. A new life is in order and where better than California?
Truth Price has his home state on lock. Whether it makes money or takes money, he knows when it’s moving and how to get his hands on it. His head is always where it’s supposed to be, especially when it comes to women. None get closer than arm's length, including his mother. But when a chance meeting draws him into the eyes of Tempess, an out-of-towner, letting someone in becomes… tempting.
Tempess and her Truth embark on a friendship soaked in passion and loyalty. However, when the past comes looking for its due, betrayal and the search for blood spills over into the new. Now Tempess and Truth must decide who and what is worth fighting for.
This story pulled me in from beginning to end. I wanted so much more in Tempess and her sisters. They had an awful upbringing with an equally terrible mother, if you can really call Jamilla a mother.
Tempess was such a complicated character. At moments, I was rooting for her, and then there were moments where I wanted to shake her. I was so mad that she just didn't tell Truth what happened. As predicted, it came back to bite her in the butt. Now Truth doesn't get a pass either. He was looking for the other shoe to fall when it came to Tempess, and he blew up when it did. I was so frustrated with him when he wouldn't listen to what Christian was trying to get him to understand. Outside of the big blowout with Tempess and Truth, I absolutely loved them together. I love seeing the big, tough guy fall first and hard. Even though Truth felt he was unlovable, Tempess came in and showed him differently.
The family dynamic in this book was everything. I loved how the siblings and friends group stuck beside each other but also spoke realness when necessary. Truth's aunt Justice made me mad. I understood she was looking out for her nephew, but she did too much. Each side character in this story made me want more from them. My first read by the author, but it will not be my last.
I loved this book just as much as the first one. Truth intrigued me in Write your name" so i was excited to dive into his story. I was definitely able to tell the similarities and differences in both Wisdom and Truth.
DNF at 34%. There are way too many characters and too many names. Aaliyah goes by Lee and Liyah. It took me Hellas to realize Maine was Charmaine & Mystic was Tempess. Way too confusing
