A newspaper reporter in rural upstate Pennsylvania (Pike, Logan) finds his dream job is in dramatic decline. Over the course of a year, through being a journalist and traveling to three distinct weddings across the United States, Pike is forced to confront immigration identity, the American career path and modern sexism. Composed in “Speed Prose” with a heavy concentration on humor, satire and lust, Grief Species offers no outlook to the future.
I rated this book a four, but really it's a 4 1/2 stars.
The story from the very beginning reminded me a lot of Saul Bellow's "Seize The Day". But Pike is a lot smarter than Tommy Wilhelm even on his best day. In the end that may be Pike's downfall.
This is a really fantastic book and I would recommend it to anyone. But I honestly feel that this book would be especially important to those people who have trouble growing up and letting go of that party all the time mentality.
This was a great first novel Adam Doc Fox, and I look forward to reading more!
This was a great first book - flowed nicely, and it had a vulnerability to it that I wasn't expecting. I think Pike has a lot of the feelings that the Gen X/Y group has - very identifiable, introspective, and funny.
