This is an awesome and high-energy book that will be very appealing to *many* young kids. I speak from some experience: this would hands-down be my favorite book if it existed when I was little. This book has such a draw to it because of the unicorn, sparkle, and energetic elements, but there's another thing that makes this book complete. The puppy! Most kids dream of getting a puppy, and this book focuses on that common dream. However, this book is far from cliche. Wall breathes new life into a classic topic, making a fun, magical, and unique book. The final thing that tops off the amazing cake that is this book is the illustrations. The illustrator truly shows a talent by adding at least a little bit of sparkle on every single page. Readers will be entranced by the beauty of this glitter, but that isn't all. The illustrator also uses a *wide* range of bright and uplifting colors, all without overwhelming the reader. However, that being said, the illustrations still manage to manifest the infectious energy of the story (but visually), and they engage readers no matter what, from beginning to end. Bravo!
Thank you to MamaBear Books and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Lucy and Twinkle the unicorn want a puppy and as they’ve been good get to pick one out, there they find a rare sparkle spaniel but training Zoey the puppy isn’t as easy as they thought.
This was so fun to read, very imaginative, sparkly and glittery. It was a really cute read and magical, from twinkle with her unicorn horn, to the sparkle spaniel it was full of sparkling magic.
The story had its funny moments, that I loved got highlighted by the precious illustrations such as the taking off their shoes in the house scene. I loved when they first spotted the dog it was around all the ordinary dogs and she just stood out amongst them, It was adorable.
I liked that this book teaches the responsibility of having a pet and that they aren’t always easy to handle and care for, it’s also just a very fun and imagination story of a girl, her unicorn and their sparkling puppy. The writing fonts were also a cute addition to this story and made it even more fun to read.
My 6-year-old daughter and I enjoy reading this children's book together. The cover of the book has lovely sparkles that are textured, which had her excited before we even opened the book for the first time. The book's illustrations are beautiful, and she really loves all of the sparkly fun throughout! I appreciate that the book goes into detail about responsibility and reminds us that in between sweet puppy snuggles, taking care of an animal is a lot of hard work. I also like that this book exposes children to different fonts, including some cursive, as well as thought bubbles and various punctuation. When I specifically asked my daughter which parts are her favorite, she replied: all of the sparkles/glitter, the puppy, Zoey, the unicorn, the page where they're looking at all of the dogs, and the title. This book is definitely a cute one, and after finishing reading it the first time, my daughter exclaimed, "I love this book!"
Meet Lucy, an adventurous and bright young girl with an unforgettable best friend—Twinkle the unicorn! Together, they’re on a mission to show Lucy’s parents just how responsible they can be so they can welcome a puppy into their home. They tackle chores with enthusiasm and always remember to use their best manners. While visiting the dog shelter, they spot a rare Sparkle Spaniel, and just like that, they forge a special bond and bring him home.
The stunning illustrations throughout the story are simply enchanting, breathing life into the characters and adding a touch of magic that makes it a feast for the eyes for young readers. We warmly invite parents, teachers, and caregivers to join in and help kids understand the joys—and limits—of responsibility. It’s a charming adventure that young listeners are sure to cherish!
Lucy and her unicorn, Twinkle, work together to care for their new Sparkle Spaniel puppy, teaching kids teamwork and responsibility. Through imaginative adventures, this heartwarming story encourages problem-solving and friendship. Perfect for building children's real-world skills through fun and engaging storytelling.
This one is beyond cute! It is sparkles and glitter and over the top, but the truth of how difficult it is to adjust to life with a new puppy is spot on - puppies get into lots of trouble! The story felt more fun rather than clearly messaging to kids, which is totally OK, but I don't think it would become a frequently requested book in our house.
Thank you to NetGalley for access to this fun family read!
A great read of your planning to get a puppy. Even if you aren't it's a good book about responsibilities and taking care of an animal. For my Uber girly girl it was a big hit. My not as sparkly and ruffly girl was openly aghast in a hilarious way about the level of pink, purple, and glitter in this book. Tucking this book away for future when we might consider getting another dog, but unlikely to make it as a regular read in our home. Though we will be hunting for more stories with Lucy and her unicorn in the future for my older more glittery girl.
There is someone out there for this book. Lucy has her own unicorn, and they get a puppy. The book starts with them doing their chores and all the things they need to do to get the parents to agree to a puppy. The second half of the book is having the puppy, leaving the gate open, looking for the puppy, and being reminded that puppies are a lot of work. I do like the illustrations; they seem fully professional. The story is long-winded. It feels more like a spoken word story than a written story and while I do like this story, I think as it is now, it has a short shelf life.
My daughters were over the moon when they got this book! They were captivated by the sparkly cover and couldn’t wait to dive into the story. It’s not only a wonderful book for teaching kids about responsibility and the hard work that comes with owning a dog, but it also highlights the importance of friendship and working together. The magical mix of unicorns and puppies made it even more enjoyable, especially for my daughters, who adore both. They love it!
My kids love this book and have been running around our house singing “ Sparkle Sparkle Glitter Time” repeatedly. As a mom I appreciated the lesson on responsibility that comes with owning and caring for a pet. While the story shows that mistakes can happen working together and honesty are the best solutions. The sparkly cover and beautiful illustrations are the perfect backdrop to this sweet story.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was a little bit worried what the quality of this one was going to be. But I was actually pretty impressed. This books is going to be perfect for little ones who love animals. And sparkles. And forget things like normal kids. It also has the hide and seek element going for it. The reader knows where the sparkle puppy is, but the characters don't. In my extensive experience, kids go nuts for that. Well done!
Lucy And Her Unicorn Get A Sparkly Puppy is great for children of all ages. Lucy and her unicorn want a puppy, but has to show she can take care of her pet. Children will learn how to deal with responsibilities, and what happens when she neglects to do something important. This story will appeal to children with fun, and bright illustrations, and a sparkly ending.
Take a cute little girl, add a unicorn, a pinch of rainbow, lots of sparkles and a puppy. My daughter was literally screaming with joy when she had a look at the cover. We read this today for the first but I'm sure not the last time. The story is both sweet and educational, and the illustrations are very girlish.
The cover of this book sparkles with beautiful glitter! (The kind that does not come off.) As a parent, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Between the eye-catching artwork, and the heart-warming story, it was a book kids will love and read over and over. Real-world skills are learned by young friends, such as taking care of a new puppy, and the responsibility of chores and daily routines.
This book was adorable. As a family we have been talking about adding a kitty to our crew and this book was the perfect Segway for us to talk to your kids about the responsibilities of owning a pet. My daughter was delighted at the prospect of a sparkle spaniel. I loved the illustrations and how vibrant and colorful they were. And how easy the words were for my kids to understand.
I enjoyed this very sparkly tale. I liked Lucy and Twinkle and Zoey. I loved the story and the illustrations. I loved all the sparkles. I believe that young children will love to have this book read to them and children learning to read would enjoy this also. I received a copy of the book and gave an honest opinion.
This book will definitely appeal to girly girls with its unicorn, abundance of pink, purple and glitter, and a cheeky puppy! Cute and adorable to read and watch!
Super cute, sparkle filled book focusing on friendship and the responsibilities of having a pet. Couldn't wait to share this one with my granddaughter and add it to her unicorn bookshelf. Love the additional stickers I received with this gifted copy. Thanks @mamabear_books
