When a mysterious set of bones is discovered in Fallport, Jett must shield the woman he’s falling for from a dangerous past—before her family's buried secrets drag them both down.
After nearly losing his life in combat, retired Special Forces soldier Jett McCoy is ready for peace and a fresh start. Taking a job as a Park Ranger in the quiet mountain town of Fallport, Virginia, at the urging of his old friend Zeke Calhoun, Jett plans to live a simple life far removed from the chaos of his past. Romance is the last thing on his mind after a failed marriage and a string of bad relationships.
But that all changes when he meets Winslet Payne. A forensic anthropologist with deep ties to Fallport, Winslet is in town for a semester at the local university. Born and raised in the area, she has no intention of staying in a place that holds painful memories of her father’s serial cheating and the dark family secret that her grandfather may have murdered her grandmother. Adding to her internal turmoil, Winslet is ashamed of a past relationship with a man who turned out to be married, a betrayal that still haunts her.
When bones are discovered on a nearby trail, the case draws her ex-lover back to town as an expert, thrusting Winslet’s family history into the spotlight once again. As old wounds reopen, Jett and Winslet find themselves growing closer, bound by their mutual need for understanding and solace. But with danger lurking and emotions running high, will their connection be enough to weather the storm, or will their pasts pull them apart?

Retired Special Forces Jett McCoy nearly lost his life on a combat mission but those he was sent to save were killed before his helicopter was downed. His girlfriend at that time left him but before she did, she blamed him for killing her brother. He now is a Park Ranger in a small mountain town of Fallport, Virginia where his friend Zeke lives. Zeke was there for him through all his surgeries and battles to live. In this small town he met Winslet Payne. She is a forensic anthropologist and is currently there for a semester at the local university. It didn’t take either of these two long to tell each other about their past, things they hadn’t told anyone else. Jett was one that always fell for a woman that needed help or support. Winslet has tried to deal with her last boyfriend who was married, and she never knew and had trouble with his betrayal. What made it worse is her father was always cheating on her mother. There was a family secret about her grandfather killing her grandmother and then disappeared with another woman. As there was no proof, they never could prove anything against her family. On Jett’s first day on the job, a couple notified that something suspicious was found when their dog started digging and found a bone and they thought it looked human. When her betraying ex comes to town to be pulled into the case, her past comes back with a vengeance. The story really pulls you in to see all the secrets come to a head.
Jett McCoy retired from his Special Forces career when the various injuries that he suffered, over the years, meant that he would be assigned to desk duty. Following his long-time recovery from a helicopter crash, he is not sure where his future will take him. As he visits former teammates in Fallport, Virginia, has he found the future he was looking for? His first sight of Winslet Payne, her beautiful red hair, has him spellbound. She is a forensic anthropologist, much in demand with local law enforcement, the FBI and as a teacher at the college level. After she learned that the man she worked with and was dating was cheating on his wife, with her, she ended their affair. She was not ready to get involved with anyone, but Jett soon becomes an important part of her life. He is supportive, especially with the family drama that has always been a part of her life. For years, rumors have swirled around when a local woman went missing and her grandparents were murdered. When bones are found in the area, will Winslet be able to solve the mystery that has haunted her family? Romance and suspense from the very first chapter! We are back in Fallport with another story filled with action and romance . This time , the story belongs to retired Special Forces member, Jett McCoy and Winslet Payne , a forensic anthropologist. After almost losing his life and in need of peace and a fresh start, Jett has taken a job as a Park Ranger in Fallport. Meanwhile, Winslet, once a resident of Fallport, is only in town for a short while. After all the heartaches and painful memories not only of her father and the family, but also of a betrayal by a man, she wants to stay under the radar. But of course, her wishes can’t be granted when bones are found in a trail, her ex comes to town and Winslet has a beacon on her. All this has Jett and Winslet working together. In the midst of the danger, feelings intensify. Will they be able to survive and discover what really is happening? This is a story filled with action, bad guys, and of course romance. A good addition to the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Theress lots of great suspense and intrigue as well as a stellar romance in Rescuing Winslet. Jett McCoy and Winslet Payne are very alike in many ways and equally unalike in others. Neither of them have been lucky in love and consequently have sworn off relationships. He's pragmatic about his life experiences preferring not to dwell on the past but live in the now. She's letting past events define her and runs rather than ignoring naysayers with thei negative opinions. While they are attracted to each other giving into hat attraction is going to happen. Or so they tell themselves. He volunteers to be her fake boyfriend when an ex makes a rather forceful requst. The fake part quickly goes by the wayside as they work together on an unsolved cold case murder that has ominous implications for her family. Falling in love was not on either's agenda and yet they're both truly head over heels for the first time.
I love the stories that have two people who aren’t ready to commit stumble into one another and come to the realization that this person was the reason that all the others before then hadn’t been right. And that’s exactly what Jett and Winslet experience in this book. They’re both trying to recover from terrible romantic histories and are in no way prepared to find Forever with each other. But past deeds are coming home to roost and they’re going to need the support of everyone with their best interests at heart in the face of the storm about to hit them. This book was a delightfully tangled web of unexpected connections that have left my head still spinning. I think the author has put “what’s the worst that could happen?” to incredible effect here. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

Winslet is an Forensic Anthropologist who came back to her hometown of Fallport to teach. The town also holds some weird family history that she would like answers to dealing with past and present family members.
Both Jett and Winslet are no strangers to heart breaks or disappointments in their love lives. Who would have thought that when these two strangers met, they would help each other heal. This is a good read and page turning. I am voluntarily reviewing this as an ARC
Jett just doesn't have any luck with women. Winslet hasn't had any luck with men either. Now the two are paired up after each having gone through an upheaval in their lives. Jett survived a helicopter crash, Winslet was shocked to find out she was having an affair with a married man. Now they are trying to solve a many years long mystery when a dog digs up some bones. Will Winslet's family survive the fallout? Better yet, will Jett and Winslet's new relationship survive it? Great characters, the story grabbed me right away, and the ending...well it was heartpounding. I've enjoyed reading this series with the characters in one story are carried over to the next. It stays familiar while adding new excitement. I received an ARC and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

After getting his heart broken several times, Retired Special Forces soldier Jett McCoy has taken up a love ‘em and leave ’em approach to women. Even so, he always has a soft spot for a woman in trouble. Winslet Payne’s family background leaves a lot to be desired. And she is a mountain of trouble… Loved the story, the wit, the dynamics between the families and friends. Definitely an interesting read.
Winslet and Jett might start their relationship pretending to be in love, but soon, pretense became reality. The two had survived some tough challenges, but there was more yet to come.
Human bones were discovered. How were they connected to Winslet? There were deadly secrets and danger coming to Winslet and Jett’s doorstep.
I enjoyed this entertaining story. I recommend it to those who like stories with romance, mystery, suspense, and deadly secrets.
Jett and Winslet. Both new to the series and both dealing with old heartbreak. Immediate attraction and open dialogue, but hesitation due to old hurts. The danger is emotional and physical, but also involves family drama and a cold case. The cheating component then and now was a unique connector of past and present. Loved the friends and family dynamic of the other characters and the role they played in the new couples development and HEA. A great read.
Oh my goodness, talk about shitty partners. Jeff and Winslet sure can do better. Especially with all those awesome friends they have in Fallport for support. Their life had some major curveballs so coming to Fallport was the best decision, mmhh or not depending at what side you look at. I just fell in love, We just gotta love Fallport💕.
I immensely enjoyed Winslet & Jett. There were so many laugh out loud moments & snark being the base of most jokes. I enjoyed the characters we know & love. Their chemistry was hot yet came with laughs. I enjoyed the mystery that was always at the background. Big emotions yet fun to explore. Splendid! Honest review.

I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. I really liked how Winslet's dark family secret came out into the open and was solved. Winslet and Jett both had poor romantic entanglements in the past but together they were great for each other. I'm glad they fell in love.
This book was really good. Winslet and Jett had both been through some bad relationships. Winslet found out the man she was dating was married. WINSLET an Jett were made for each other. Wonderful ending.

From the first moment to the end, it was clear that Jett and Windslet had found their One. Working to that realization took wading through both of their histories of family and past relationshils. No clean journey here. It was worth the ending.
Search for Winslet: WOW! Intense, exciting and never a dull moment! Fantastic writing and wonderful characters! I really enjoyed their story of ups and downs!
