Candrima Castille has been having the same dream for the last 17 years. It always starts the same, it always ends the same, and she always wakes up at the same time. She always has the same breakfast, sees the same people, and eats the same things. Her life is the epitome of routine. Until the dream changes.
Cornelius Bankole has dedicated his whole life to smelling the flowers. And nothing could be better. Sure, it's not with most succubi pick as a profession, but he has his cabin, his family, and his plants, and he's not looking to change that. Until an injured human woman stumbles into his yard.
They are thrown into the whims of Destiny after a serendipitous accident, and together they must decide if fate made a mistake, or if some things really and truly are just meant to be.
This was a cute read! I love a good fated mates romance, and Candy and Corn are the awkward introverted couple I aspire to be half of one day.
I also love the world building of Heaven, Hell, and all the realms. I’m giving this 4.5⭐️ because I would’ve been fine with a longer book if it meant getting more info about all of the red tape and politics of these realms and how these beings navigate them.
I enjoyed this monster romance book. This book is my 4th book by this author and I love the fact that her characters are diverse across the representation spectrum. I really enjoyed this book and I will be reading more books by this author.
Girl, Aria, I did not know what to expect, but girl. Candrima’s story pulled me in right away a woman trapped in routine until destiny decides it’s time to shake things up. When she crosses paths with Cornelius, a gentle demon content with his quiet life, their worlds blend in a way that feels fated, fragile, and forbidden. The story moves at an easy pace but still hums with emotion, spice, laughter, and quiet tension.
I’m going to attempt a review without spoilers… I love romance fantasy books and girl this was SOOOOO good, to get a quality book with humor, love and spice that had me rubbing my feet together and blushing. You have such a talent of crafting character and worlds that feel so real and I loved every single word. You had me on the edge of my seat with how things unfolded and i didn’t want it to end! I hope to maybe see something from Betty and her beaux but i get if it’s not in the cards lol. I loved Candy;s family and Corn’s family redemption!
I loved, Loved, LOVED this book! I'm really vibing with "fantastical" Black romance right now. There were a lot of parallels to real life in this book. It was an interesting perspective of Heaven and Hell as well. I loved Corn, the sensitive and stubborn succubus, and Candy, his "little witch." It was a thorough and good read that I could take more of.
A plus was the comedic thoughts of the MCs too. I laughed multiple times, unexpected, but appreciatively.
If Aria Daze writes it I’m going to read it. It’s only so many ways I can praise her writing. Please buy this and all the books in her catalog so we can have ourselves a full time writer giving us more amazing stories like this!
“Because every cup of tea is made better with a little bit of honey, and a little of your sweetness is exactly what my life needs.”
“Cornelius, I love every part of you. The florist bits, the snarky bits, and the murdery demon king bits. My kind, handsome, and patient baby. You are a perfect husband.”
I loved this so much! It was sweet, spicy, funny, and chaotic—and I enjoyed every minute of it. Aria Daze has quickly become one of my top favorite authors; I just adore the way she writes romance.
Corn and Candy were literally the cutest. They had so many quotable lines, and I loved how sweet and devoted they were to each other. Even though their love was forbidden, they didn’t let that stop them—and they definitely didn’t play about each other!
The worldbuilding and magic system were really strong, and I loved how Aria weaved it into the romance. Reading about a powerful Black witch and a Shadow King who matched each other so perfectly was such a joy. They had plenty of funny, chaotic moments, and the way they could intertwine and use each other’s powers added so much to their bond.
Cornelius was such a sweetheart—a big, tall, grumpy softie with major “touch her and die” vibes. And Candy? She was just as lovable. They were truly made for each other.
I highly recommend this book, especially if you’re in the mood for a sweet and spicy Halloween read with plenty of magic and love.
Candy Corn Curses by Aria Daze is the second book I have read by this author (I have read Candid, and I currently have Bloom waiting on my Kindle). Ms. Daze has a unique writing style, and her main male characters have similar attributes; they are grumpy and unfiltered but with a core of giddy sweetness. Candy Corn Curses is a paranormal/fantasy story with so many different layers that it is difficult to summarize. Candrima (Candy) Castille has a long-term reoccurring dream; the dream is murky, and she is unsure if the being in the dream is a friend or foe. After leaving a Halloween party she inhabits the dream, Candy is involved in an accident and rescued by Cornelius (Corn) Bankole, a florist and succubus. From this chaotic meeting, this mismatched pair (succubus and human?) find a sense of ease together and passion!?! Passion! As I mentioned before, it is truly too much to summarize. Candy and Corn find themselves on a journey involving, fate, prophecy, soulmates, lost families, secret identities, intrigue, deceit, warring forces (heaven, hell and earth) heartbreak and separation…. whew, so much. I enjoyed this story, mostly Corn and Candy’s snarky banter and tortured devotion. Parts of the book required reading and rereading, but it was worth it. Beware of violence, open door lovemaking, and big-time angst. Ms. Daze does a wonderful job in building her world based on our three known realms: heaven, hell and earth. https://theretiredreader.com/f/candy-...
This is a romantasy that touched my heart on a deep level. The story had me laughing out loud, gushing with delight, and shedding tears. Candy and Corn's journey was rich with intricate layers! When I first picked up this book, it was nothing like I had anticipated. The story had incredible depth, and the world-building was outstanding.
I absolutely adored the characters. Candy and Corn were utterly cute and charming; their love for each other practically leaped off the pages. The dynamics within Corn's family kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t help but feel for him—it was truly a lot to digest!
I wish I could share more, but I don’t want to spoil the story. You just gotta dive into the story yourself! This story is incredibly multilayered. While it has its lighthearted moments, it also delves into deeply emotional themes. I am eagerly looking forward to exploring more works by the talented author, Aria Daze!
This started off really well. I was intrigued and captivated by the world building and the magic. The relationship development between the characters was sweet and solid with both on page accounts and an obvious bond. But somewhere around the time, they figure out what Candy is from her family, this feels like it because another book entirely. I think what this needed was another read through, a round of edits and different formatting. Things get very confusing on what is real and what is dreams, page breaks where definitely need to denote shifts in scenes, and it felt like the plot moved in a circle which slowed the pacing. But the time we made it to the events in Heaven I was skimming and ready for it to be over. This is still full of good humor, good spice, and fun lovable characters but the execution wasn’t as clean as Daze’s other works.
I had no idea what to expect coming into this story and it was such a beautiful pleasant surprise! I absolutely love everything about Corn and Candy! Their “old people” hobbies, how down to earth they are, and how much they are wrapped in love for one another! The world building was absolutely immaculate! Love it all so much! I was about to beat Corn up for trying to sever that bond but I saw later why he had to try, and I’m happy it all worked out for them!
I thought this was going to be a cute monster romance with candy corn references. I am so happy that I read this book. The world building! The characters! The plot! Just wow! This was my first time reading this author. Most definitely will not be my last.
Forbidden love always seems so wrong but it feels so right!!! I love how Candy always challenged Corn. I loved their adventures together. Corn being scared pissed me off so bad because why your woman more brave than you?!?!?! Glad they got their HEA
