Peter Butler is an average 16-year-old boy. He lives with his granddad above their tatty bookshop in Whitby. After a mugging one night, Peter discovers that he has ancient magical powers. Afterwards, his life will never be the same again. He becomes a part of the oldest conflict in history.
The Illuminati hunt him. The Arcanium need him.
He meets his centuries old godmother – Glynnis, and learns that he is the son of the legendary King Arthur. Merlin sent Peter 1500 years into the future, in order to protect him from an evil and powerful sorcerer-king called Mallum Mallus.
Glynnis and Peter embark on a daring magical adventure around the world, deciphering clues that lead them to long lost and powerful artefacts, hidden in famous landmarks. Can they locate and destroy Mallum Mallus for good?
It has been a while since I read a book that I just couldn’t put down and The Order of Ascalon is definitely a page-turner. I really enjoyed the way the author put his own spin on the Arthurian legend. Even in the book’s slower moments, the story kept my attention. It wasn’t just a good idea for a story, but it’s well written and well done.
If you are looking for an interesting new series of books to read, I highly suggest you check out The Order of Ascalon.
I really enjoy most things to do with Merlin and King Aurthur and was really pleased to come across this book by Daniel Franks. It is very original and adds an exciting new dimensions to the existing legends. A really well thought out plot and lots of interesting characters kept me turning over the pages and very little got done at the weekend!
A really enjoyable story that kept me intrigued all the way through. I liked the different characters from history that are introduced, I thought that was a clever touch and I can see The Order Of Ascalon becoming a popular series.
