Book Review: Godwinks for Moms: True Stories (The Godwink Series #7)
By Squire Rushnell and Louise DuArt

What’s It About?
Godwinks for Moms: True Stories is the seventh installment in The Godwink Series, co-authored by Squire Rushnell, an Emmy Award-winning author and inspirational speaker, and Louise DuArt, a renowned comedian and impersonator. The book, set for release on May 6, 2025, shares real-life stories about “godwinks”—moments that feel like divine signs or meaningful coincidences. This edition focuses on mothers, offering short, uplifting tales about love, challenges, and small miracles in parenting.

What Works
Easy to Read: The stories are short and heartfelt, perfect for busy moms who want a quick dose of inspiration.
Relatable Themes: Whether it’s a mom worrying about her child or a surprising moment of grace, the book taps into universal parenting experiences.
Encouraging Tone: The authors (one an inspirational writer, the other a comedian) keep things warm and occasionally lighthearted.

What Could Be Better
Predictable for Series Fans: If you’ve read other Godwink books, the format might feel familiar—each story follows a similar “coincidence with a purpose” pattern.
More Reflection Needed: While the stories are touching, they don’t dig deep into bigger questions about faith or motherhood.

Who Should Read It?
Moms (or anyone who loves one) looking for comfort or a reminder that they’re not alone.
Fans of the Godwink series or similar feel-good books like Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Final Thoughts
Godwinks for Moms is a sweet, encouraging read, though not groundbreaking. It’s like a cozy chat with a friend who says, “Hey, you’re doing great.” If you want deep analysis, this isn’t it—but if you’d enjoy a hopeful pick-me-up, it delivers.

Rating: 3.5/5 (Good for its purpose)

Godwinks for Moms is the newest addition and book seven in SQuire Bushnell’s GodWink series. This is an anthology of thirty-two true stories and their touching Godwink experiences. Each account focuses on the everyday miracles that moms experience. Godwinks are meant as a reassurance to let moms know that they are never alone, it’s going to be okay, and that they are each valued and loved by God.

I will share one story that especially touch this reader’s heart.

Darla was an unwed teen who gave birth to a son she planned put up for adoption. She was heartbroken by her decision but knew she could not properly mother this little boy. Still she longed to hold her son and begged the attending nurse to break the rule and allow it. Her nurse, Danella, with a breaking heart, went against the hospital rules and allowed Darla to hold her baby before he was taken to his adoptive parents. Darla covered her baby with her tears and kisses and promised to pray for him everyday. She kept this promise. The years passed and Daniela had a daughter she named Amanda. Amanda married a man named Chad. Danella and her family liked him, but felt like he had a chip on his shoulder. They learned that his mother gave him up for adoption at birth. He wondered why she didn’t want him and it had bothered him his whole life. What happened next will astound you and bring you to tears. Even as I write this my arms are covered with chills of the love in This GodWink story.

The promise that God has a plan and a purpose for each of us amid the joys and sorrows of life is reinforced over and over.

An anthology of treasured stories-- moments shared between mothers and their children, whether biological, adopted, or married into families. Their treasure trove of shared glimpses into brave mothers' and children's personal lives has been woven into a book meant to delight and inspire readers. While I'm not certain that all of these stories are authentic, as if they actually happened rather than being dreamed up by a clever storyteller, they all are written to inspire and instill hope. Granted, not every story in this volume of cherished moments is a happily-ever-after story, it is certain that they all will cause a reader to pause and reflect on a greater importance.

Each chapter contain two to four detailed accounts of moments shared between mothers and children. Some describe birth stories with great clarity and detail while other include captured moments of surgeries, incidents, or even deploying for military service. There are stories about adopting beloved pets into families. Other stories capture memories about important moments shared with neighbors, community members or mentors, and sometimes even angels.

While every story is meant to be Biblically based and accurate, so accounts do seem to have more of a flair for creativity and imagination. Either way, there will be moments of reading that evoke both laughter and tears.

I won this ARC as a goodreads giveaway. As a mom of 2 young boys, this book was great. It reminded me of God's grace and mercy in our lives. He doesn't have to reveal himself to us in this world but he chooses to! He chooses to remind us that he's always with us and always watching. I loved how this book was divided into sections of different types of true stories and that each story has a reflection, and most have a Scripture to go along with it. Perfect short stories for busy moms who want to be reminded of God's work in our lives!
