The Paris Roommates #4

The Paris Roommates: Sawyer

Rate this book
International Bestseller Ava Miles delivers another flirty and feel good romantic comedy à la Emily in Paris and Friends about a struggling artist who finds confidence—and love—with the help of his found family.

There has only ever been one thing Dr. Sawyer Jackson to live in Paris and be an artist. But he bombed on his first brave attempt as an awkward youth with big dreams—a fact his parents remind him of every chance they get. Pushed by their fiery ambitions, he teaches instead, living a half-life as an art professor.

Until he’s offered a second chance to return to Paris and realize his dreams. Clutching a paintbrush and a dream, he returns to the City of Light hoping to turn this love/hate relationship around.

It’s absolutely wonderful—in his atelier surrounded by canvases, he’s living his best life.

It’s absolute hell—he can’t drown out his parents’ criticism that he’s not good enough, despite how much his roommates assure him.

And then there’s this girl… She loves that he’s a throwback to another time with his love for old books, romantic gestures, and linen handkerchiefs. Even better, she’s in the art world and knows good work. She says she believes in him, but will she still if he doesn’t make it? Is this happily ever after, or just another prelude to heartbreak?

But this is Paris, and if there were ever a place for a miracle, it’d be here.

Reinvention, rediscovery, and romance… Fall in love with THE PARIS ROOMMATES.
The good-girl baker Thea Rogers.
The restless dreamer Dean Harris.
The driven fashion writer Brooke Adams.
The charismatic professor Dr. Sawyer Jackson.
The rebel Chef Madison Garcia.
The disillusioned golden boy restaurateur Kyle Taylor.

Note to Thea’s book was featured in People Magazine! Make sure to check her book out along with the rest of the roommates.

Book Review: The Paris Roommates: Sawyer by Ava Miles
Thank you Ava Miles for my gifted book.

This book is a baguette-wrapped hug, a glittery love letter to second chances, and the emotional unraveling of a man who’s been holding his breath for far too long. The Paris Roommates: Sawyer is like stepping into a perfectly lit French film—full of charm, ache, creative yearning, and just enough chaos to make it feel real.

Let’s talk about Dr. Sawyer Jackson, our cinnamon-roll-in-crisis. An art professor who never quite recovered from bombing his first shot at being a full-time artist, he’s been coasting on academic stability while slowly calcifying inside. His dreams? Shrink-wrapped and shelved. His heart? Buried under years of criticism from two parents who treat emotional abuse like a competitive sport. But fate, and Paris (because obviously), offers him a do-over. And this time, he takes it—with trembling hands, a few too many scarves, and the kind of gentle hope that makes you want to scream into a croissant.

Sawyer’s second attempt at artistic reinvention is equal parts romantic and tragic. He’s not bold. He’s not flashy. He’s the kind of man who cries over Monet, reads dead poets for comfort, and still believes in soulmates even when he’s convinced he’s not worthy of one. He’s heartbreak in linen shirts, and I loved him immediately.

Then comes Phoebe—gallery owner, art-world badass, and human earthquake in heels. She doesn’t just see Sawyer’s potential; she respects his craft. She sees the man he could be and the boy who was never allowed to fail safely. Their romance is quiet at first, like a sketch before the painting—simple lines, honest strokes. But when it blooms? It’s fireworks in a museum. These two don’t fall in love so much as recognize each other, like souls that have been orbiting the same gallery wall, waiting for a proper introduction.

And while the romance gives the story its pulse, the heartbeat comes from the roommates. This found family is absurdly perfect. Supportive. Snarky. Ride-or-die. Imagine if the cast of Friends were emotionally evolved and French-adjacent. These people show up for each other in the middle of the night with wine, wisdom, and very pointed questions. The way they protect Sawyer—especially from his own mental spiral—is a thing of beauty. Group therapy, but make it fashionably Parisian.

There’s also Nanine, their fierce, maternal mentor, who gave all of them a foundation when their original families flopped spectacularly. In this book, she’s recovering from a loss that brings the whole group back together, and her presence feels like both anchor and lighthouse. She’s not just a character; she’s a reminder that sometimes the most revolutionary act is loving someone unconditionally.

What The Paris Roommates: Sawyer- does brilliantly—besides make you want to impulsively buy a plane ticket and a paintbrush—is show the invisible work of healing. The messy, slow, deeply unsexy process of shedding shame and rewriting your internal monologue. Sawyer isn’t magically “fixed” by love. But he chooses to believe, to show up for his art, for Phoebe, and most importantly, for himself. That’s what makes the story powerful. Not the fairy-tale setting (though, yes, the city of light is dreamy), but the reminder that reinvention takes courage—and maybe a really good roommate or five.

Oh, and let’s not ignore the humor. This book sparkles with wit and sarcasm. From over-the-top dinner party disasters to dry commentary about the absurdity of art critics, it keeps a smile on your face even as it guts you emotionally. Sawyer’s roommates are one sarcastic quip away from stealing the whole show, and Phoebe’s scathing commentary on the art world is chef’s kiss.

Quote that lodged in my chest like a well-thrown dart:
“Sometimes home is where your heart learns to heal.”
Yes. That. Exactly that.

I came for the romance, stayed for the found family, and ended up underlining entire paragraphs because Ava Miles doesn’t just write stories—she builds emotional architecture. There’s nothing flashy here. No billionaire secret babies or mafia boyfriends. Just regular people trying to be brave enough to chase what they’ve always wanted. And that’s more romantic than anything.

If you’re a sucker for emotionally intelligent storytelling, found families who roast and rescue you in equal measure, or brooding men with art supplies and deep insecurities, The Paris Roommates: Sawyer needs to be your next read.

5/5 stars.
For the art.
For the ache.
For the people who hold your hand while you figure out how to be whole again.

It is so, so good and my heart is so happy! I love Ava Miles books and have been binging the Paris Roommates series. I love them! Full of hope, love, found family, food, Paris, and creating the life of your dreams reading it is like spending time with the people you love. It is a warm hug and made me feel all the feels and left my heart happy and my soul feeling content. Paris is the ideal setting for the story as it is a haven for lovers of food, wine, and love. A decade ago six very different people spent a year living and working with Nanine. During that time they learned a lot about each other and became a family. Now they are back together to help Nanine recover after an illness and a devastating loss. Each member of the group is at a crossroads in their life and being back together in Paris is just what they need. This series is about their return to Paris and their journey to create the lives of their dreams. Each character is well developed and I am enjoying learning more about them and watching their dreams come true. The books can be read as standalones but the relationships are such a part of the story that once you read one you will want to read them all. This fourth book is about Sawyer, the professor that dreams of being an artist but has doubts about his abilities. He is taking a chance and trying to make his dreams come true when he meets his muse who might change his whole life, Phoebe. But will he find a way to be brave when his doubts and his parents try to make him abandon his dreams? Sawyer is everything I want in a MMC, thoughtful, caring, and not afraid to feel emotions plus he has the attractive broody professor thing going on. His struggles with confidence, inspiration, and his parents made him very relatable and my heart broke for him. Phoebe was a welcome addition to the group and I liked the way she handled her own family issues and the closeness of the roommates as she built her relationship with Sawyer. Finishing this book made me a little sad because I have to wait until next year to read the next book about the roommates. I highly recommend this book and the series to readers that enjoy their romances full of found family and that leave their heart happy and wanting more.

Thank you so much to @avamiles for the #gifted copy of The Paris Roommates: Sawyer!

Releasing October 15, 2025 — and trust me, you’ll want this one on your TBR!

There’s just something magical about Ava Miles’ writing; every story feels like a hug, full of heart, hope, and with a sprinkle of Paris magic. The Paris Roommates: Sawyer is no exception. It’s a story about chasing your dreams, believing in yourself, and finding the kind of love (and friendship) that feels like home.

Dr. Sawyer Jackson completely stole my heart. Watching him go from doubting himself to rediscovering his passion for art in the city of lights was emotional and inspiring. He learns to let go of his parents’ harsh expectations, follow his heart, and finally believe that he deserves happiness and love.

I adored his connection with Phoebe, the person who helps him see the world (and himself) in color again. Their chemistry, the slow-burning romance, the vulnerability, all of it felt so genuine.

And let’s talk about the roommates. I love how this group always shows up for each other. They’re proof that family doesn’t have to be blood; sometimes it’s the people who choose to stay by your side no matter what.

This book was warm, emotional, romantic, and beautifully written. Each book in this series just keeps getting better, and Sawyer’s story might be my favorite yet. It’s about art, courage, and the beautiful mess of finding yourself again.

✨ A story about second chances, chasing dreams, and the kind of love that changes everything. ✨

A warm hug wrapped in Parisian magic.

If Emily in Paris and Before Sunrise had a found-family book baby, it would be The Paris Roommates: Sawyer. Ava Miles delivers a story that feels like a cozy night in with your favorite people… full of laughter, creative dreams, heartbreak, healing, and a love story that sneaks up on you like the first sip of good red wine.

Sawyer completely stole my heart. He’s that beautifully broody, art-professor type who quotes Shakespeare, doubts himself way too much, and paints with his whole soul. His struggle to silence his parents’ voices and finally believe he’s “enough” hit me right in the gut. Watching him step into who he was always meant to be: artist, dreamer, lover… had me cheering, swooning, and flying through the pages.

And Phoebe? The perfect muse. Their connection is pure, slow-burn chemistry with major “we see each other” energy. Add in the Paris backdrop and the found-family vibes (The Roommates are the definition of ride-or-die), and it’s impossible not to fall in love with this series.

Ava Miles writes with so much warmth that you don’t just read her books, you live in them. This one left me feeling like I’d just spent the weekend in a candlelit atelier surrounded by friends, art, and second chances.

5/5 dreamy Paris nights, a paint-splattered love story, and one reminder that you’re never too old, or too scared to chase your dreams. 💫

This group of friends warms my heart so much with every story! I have loved getting to know each character along the way of this series.

In this one we are following Sawyer, the shy, not so sure of himself, artist. He doesn't have much faith in his talents but wants to make a career of his artwork. He comes from a not so great upbringing emotionally so it's hard for him to be confident. Phoebe is a new gallery owner in town and finds his work and does whatever she has to to get his attention. They have an instant spark and decide to make a go of things while keeping their personal and professional lives separate as best they can.

Ava has such a great way of bringing such positive takes to a story. She really had me feeling everything for Sawyer and rooting for his chance at his dream. I loved how perfect Phoebe fit his lifestyle and was a boost for his insecurities. The roommates stole my heart, as always. They are such positive lights for each other and I always get the Friends vibe from the tv show. There's plenty of family drama in this one that kept me on the edge of my set but then I was also giggling and kicking my feet throughout for Sawyer and Phoebe.

This series is a great read for when you need uplifting vibes and want a story with the ultimate Friends vibes. Each is technically a standalone but I definitely think it makes everything more heartfelt when read in order.

Thank you so much Ava Miles and team for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Friendship, family drama, romance, career changes, new beginnings all in dreamy Paris.
The friends are back to help Nanine, the woman they worked with in her work-study program at Nanine’s restaurant. I enjoyed the realistic feelings they all had with the new adventures and relationships they were all embarking on. Even though they were all in different places in their lives, they all had complicated family issues in common. All the friends were protective of each other, and were happy and cautious when he met Phoebe, his muse. All the friends had to meet her and give their opinion and eventually blessing.
I enjoyed the growth of all the characters, especially Sawyer. He learned to put his parent’s negative criticism behind him so that he could move forward in life and make the leap to a career change. He not only worked harder than he ever had to paint and make his dreams come true, but he also fought for Phoebe when there was some miscommunication. He realized he was stronger than he realized, and that he didn’t need his parent’s approval to make himself happy.
This is a “go for your dreams” story with friends that more like family and a romance that was meant to be.

**Paris!**

In the Paris Roommates series, we have the fourth book titled “The Paris Roommates: Sawyer.” This was my first time reading this author and this series, and I must say that I will definitely go back to read the other books. I absolutely loved this book about found family and how they support Sawyer in everything he does. With no family support, it is essential to have people around you who uplift you, even if they are not blood relatives, and that is beautifully illustrated through his roommates. I’m a total sucker for that theme.

Additionally, Sawyer, the main character, is unafraid to open up, be vulnerable, and show his sensitive side. Watching him and Phoebe get their second chance in Paris was sweet and romantic, especially as Sawyer works hard to achieve his dreams of becoming an artist.

While this book is a standalone within an interconnected series, the author does an excellent job of creating well-written characters that make it easy to read out of order without getting lost. I am very much looking forward to the next books featuring roommates Kyle and Madison in the series.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

*I received an E-ARC of this book for free in exchange for an honest review* - Thank you @avamiles!

The Paris Roommates: Sawyer is part of an interconnected series but you don’t need to read the others to understand this one. If you haven’t read the others, this one gives you the CliffsNotes in the beginning about the other roommates. I enjoyed reading about an MMC like Sawyer. After reading about so many touch her and d!e, morally grey fantasy MMCs, it was fun to read about one who recites philosophers and Shakespeare, who is an artist and open with his emotions. I appreciate that this book has mental health rep for everyone but it also highlights mental health for men and shows that it’s okay not to be okay. The found family is strong in this book and I’m excited to go back and read about all the different roommates. Even though insta love isn’t usually my favourite trope, it fits the setting and characters. Sawyer’s relationship feels like the stereotypical French romance, full of romantic quotes and grand gestures. What’s also fun about this book is even though we are focusing on Sawyer’s life, we are also following two other roommates, so it’s like a sneak peek into the next book. If you enjoy romances with found family and set in Paris, you should try The Paris Roommates series!

This series just keeps getting better. I loved being back with The Paris Roommates and seeing how much they all continue to show up for each other. The found family in this series really is something special!

Sawyer’s story touched me on such a deep level. He is such an old-fashioned renaissance man who quotes Shakespeare, paints with his heart, and believes in romance, art, and kindness in a way that feels timeless. His struggle with self-doubt and feeling like he’s never quite enough because of his parents broke my heart. But watching him finally step into who he’s meant to be- an artist, a dreamer, and just the all-around wonderful man he is was everything. He honestly touched my soul!

I loved how supportive the roommates were through all of it. They’re the family you choose and the ones who remind you that you are enough even when you can’t see it yourself. The setting, the friendships, and the romance all came together perfectly here.

Sawyer’s story to finding happiness, purpose, and love felt honest and beautiful. He deserves every good thing that comes his way!

The Paris Roommates: Sawyer is a powerful and moving story. It is 4th in an inter-connected series, but able to read as a standalone. Since it was my introduction to the series, I hope to go back and read the others it connects to.

At first I didn't like this story. That is my fault though, because I jumped in expecting one thing and feeling disappointed. I gave it another try though, once I had a better understanding of what wAs going on and couldn't put it down.

Some things I loved: the story of Sawyer and Phoebe. How they met and were in love instantly. The connection and chemistry they shared was brilliant. I also loved the found family, and the bond they all shared.

Some things I didn't love: the point of views switching between Sawyer and his roommates. I understand that it was needed to set up the next story in the series, but I feel like it could have been done differently so as not to interrupt the flow of Sawyer's story.

Thank you to The Author Agency for my ARC, this has been my voluntary review!

**ARC REVIEW**

The Paris Roommates: Sawyer by Ava Miles is my first read in the Paris Roommates series, and I’m excited to dive into the previous books.

Sawyer’s journey is inspiring, with raw, authentic emotion throughout. His strained relationship with his parents was heartbreaking, and It was deeply satisfying to see him finally embrace the artist he was always meant to be. He truly deserved it.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the roommates—supportive, funny, and full of heart, and the Paris setting added a beautiful, atmospheric touch. The banter between Sawyer, Phoebe, and the roommates is both fun and heartfelt, and I liked how naturally Phoebe fit into the group dynamic.

A heartwarming read for anyone who enjoys stories of second chances, found family, and a touch of Parisian magic. 💫

Each time I get to come back and visit with the Paris Roommates, I fall even harder in love with them all. It is a rare thing in today's world to have such close friends. To be honest, they are more than friends, as they are more family.

It is not more evident than in this book with Sawyer and his parents. They are unsupportive. I felt for Sawyer but with his friends he was able to find that inner strength and stand up to his parents and pursue what truly makes him happy.

The moment that Thea and Sawyer shared about their families was very touching. These two were not really that different in what they were dealing with.

I loved every moment of this book. Sawyer is a true artist in my mind and deserves all the accolades he received. Ava, you and the Paris Roommates have my heart forever. This book is a must read. I would give it more than five stars if I could.

Ava Miles is one of my favorite authors ever and this book is a diamond! I love these Paris roommates and each book builds upon the other. Sawyer is the painter who is struggling with finding himself and finding his art muse. His paintings in the restaurant start getting recognized and at first it's overwhelming. But, once he meets Phoebe - his creativity gets electrocuted and also he starts falling in love. I loved their banter and how she fit in so well with the roommates. I HATED both Sawyer's and Phoebe's moms - they are the worst! So glad that the found family continues to expand and surround all of them with such love. The support that these friends give to each other is just so special. I truly love the way Ava writes her characters - you really feel like you are part of the family too. This is a must read series - check it out!

“Sometimes home is where your heart learns to heal.”

Reading Sawyer’s story was an idyllic stroll through the cobbled streets of Paris, with a mist of rain and splashes of color from umbrellas, scarves, coats. You will love its pace, the narrative that unfolded when he saw his muse, and his growth as a person who finally decided that enough was enough. Of course, all of these happened with Nanine, the roommates, and their plus-ones supporting (and protecting) Sawyer, and eventually Phoebe. And, everything was wrapped up with the beautiful bow of found family.

This series just keeps getting better, and I’ve completely fallen for these characters.

Dr. Sawyer Jackson’s journey, from self-doubt to rediscovering his passion in Paris, is heartfelt, inspiring, and impossible to put down.

His second chance at art, love, and believing in himself had me hooked from the first page.

Emotional, romantic, and beautifully written. Sawyer’s story is a five star gem you don’t want to miss!
