From bestselling horror writer Steven LaChance, author of the true horror classic The Uninvited, comes his first novel in his Modern MonstersSeries, GLOW.
Continual horrific nightmares can cause serious PTSD. When you connect the PTSD and sleeplessness together, it is a recipe for trouble. 38% of people in the Unites States alone suffer from sleep disturbances, which lay fertile ground for sleep paralysis, hallucination and sleepwalking - stepping outside of their dreams and impacting their waking life. Once this happens, it's a scary, slippery slope. There have been actual reports of people stepping out of windows in their sleep, trying to escape the object of their nightmares. It is an even more frightening thought when you consider nearly 20% of our youth are out there in the world having nightmares. Some of them are having these nightmares at least once every night and often multiple times.
The ancient evil Glow takes you into the realm of everything you have imagined nightmares to be and how they can turn into a viral monster. Once Glow steps into your dreams, there is no turning back from this modern monster madness.
Glow is inspired by real nightmares, events and research into the unexplainable.
Welcome to the world of Glow
The first book in Steven LaChance's Modern Monsters Series.
Once again, Steven has kept me up at night with his “talent for terror”. As a sleepwalker, this one landed on another level. I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t stop! I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!
Based on research of true stories about sleep paralysis, Steven LaChance creates a monster that tortures a cast of characters who unleashed more than they bargained for.
I've experienced sleep paralysis, but I've never seen things like some people have. However, the experience of not being able to move is terrifying.
I think Steven LaChance captures the horror well that the characters are experiencing. The dialogue sometimes felt forced and unnatural. Some of it just felt like it wouldn't be how young adults in college would talk.
The story is good and well-researched. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
first and only dnf on goodreads 🥴 could not get past the writing; it read like AI had been prompted to compose a poorly-written ghost story. the portrayal of the 20 y/o college-aged main character left me wondering if the author had ever spoken to a college-aged male, as every example of dialogue from them just felt like they were sprinkling cuss words in to make it seem more ~edgy college kid~ and it did not come across realistic or natural at ALL
This book is definitely a page turner that keeps you hooked until the end. It evokes vivid imagery and makes you weary of what could be hiding in the dark and in plain sight. Fascinating story that screams for a movie adaptation. Fantastic work Steven!!!!!
