A Mature Man Meets A Not So Average Woman When Amber Hunt-Darkwater and John Reddorn meet, each has an agenda. Amber has her eye on a handsome doctor. John is looking for a female friend without any sexual benefits sought or given. Still, the sexual chemistry between them sizzles. Within minutes of meeting, they share a heated lip lock while the good doctor looks on. Once alone the sensual tension between them rises to heights neither can control.

Read one Marilyn Lee novel and you kind of read them all. So this review is generic and applies to all the 3 ML books I've read. The heroine is African-American, full figured, average looking (mostly described as plain and sometimes even ugly), supposedly doing well for herself but not very rich and she most def doesn’t need a man to full-fill her life. Oh no, she doesn’t. But still: she wants an Alpha male to mary her and give her babies. And did I say that she really wants to get married? Wouldn’t settle for anything less.
The hero is way handsome, white or Native-American, built the stuff of wet dreams, all brawny like and rich. Falls in lust with the heroine while inside dialoging with himself how it is impossible that he’s drawn to such a plain and average looking woman considering he usually goes for the thin sticky blonde. And he’s also not looking for something permanent because he rather plays the field or, in case of the Native-America hero, his ultimate goal is to marry a Native-American woman to preserve his heritage but in the meantime he could settle for some laissez faire sex with the heroine as long she keeps in mind he’s not into HEA with her.
The hero is also supposed to be very Alpha like and a take charge kind of guy: not asking for a date but demanding sex, arrogantly. And demonstrates this by being physically and verbally abusive. (Some pounding the heroine against walls for supposedly mind blowing sex, spanking her minutes after they met, telling her she ain’t all that beautiful and calling her bitch or easy lays in the heat of the moment does not an Alpha male make. )
And after he has laid his cards on the table, he expects the heroine to decide real quick if she wants to give in to his demands. She does, while again inside dialoging, bouncing back and forth about her decision, because she really really wants to get married and have babies and live HEA. Which gets real old, real fast to a point that she totally gets on your nerves and you want to slap her silly for being so stupidly indecisive. Can’t believe this women, can’t believe this men either.
So I’ve read 3 Marilyn Lee books so far and I’ve detected a pattern: a lot of repetition to a point you just don’t longer care if they get to that HEA or not.
I truly enjoyed this book. All the books in the series are great reading. The fact that all the characters are related in some way.... Some blood related and some friend related makes a great book only in chapters..... Each story being a chapter. Her books are so worth reading....
Amber and John had me laughing my socks off with the dialogue between them.
John really did not want to all for the plain Amber but she had everything he needed. It was torture waiting for him to admit what we all knew. I loved Amber and I enjoyed this story!
It took me three months to finally get to the end of this book. The characters were so immature. I can not believe she wanted love after sleeping with this person 2 maybe 3 times. Her mind games made me sick. She practically bullied her way into commitment. I suffered through so I could end it. I love most of this authors books but this one did nothing for me. I don't think I will be reading the next in this series.
