FROM POPULAR GAY ROMANCE AUTHOR MORTICIA KNIGHT I recommend this exciting historical story. ~ Prism Book Alliance Reviews Book six in the Gin & Jazz series. Will Carmichael, an impossibly handsome silent film star, longs for the broodingly intense director André Chenard. Can they find their way to one another despite the hidden perils of the prohibition era? Will Carmichael lives a carefree and fun-filled life as one of Global Studio’s most popular motion picture stars. Young and stunningly attractive, he could have any man he wants. However, the only one he has any interest in is the only one who won’t have anything to do with him. André Chenard is Global Studio’s newest director. A proponent of the newly introduced Russian method of acting, he aspires to create true art through the films he directs. Not interested in wasting his time on frivolous pursuits, he spurns Will’s constant attempts to catch his attention. Although André can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous man, his initial meeting with Will leads him to believe that he is too shallow for serious consideration. Resigned to the fact that André will never be his, Will is determined to enjoy himself to the fullest at his favourite speakeasy and pansy club. When his carousing becomes out of control and he’s injured, André steps in to help. As a result, they each discover that there is much more to the other than they had originally assumed. Right when it seems they have found their way to one another, an outside threat drives a wedge between them. As a result, they may have more to worry about than lost love—the threat could be to their very lives.

Another new couple with more obstacles to overcome, some are of their own making and others are from outside sources. Watching Will and André navigate the course before them captured my heart, sometimes breaking it and other times warming it but all the time had me never wanting it to end.

Overall Series Review and Rating: 5 Stars
As a series, Gin and Jazz is first rate fiction. Some people might not care for the cliffhangers of books 1, 2, & 3 but I found the cliffies to be perfectly fitting for the 1920s Hollywood setting. Even though Hollywood Serials didn't really come into favor until the 1930s I found Jack's story to be the epitome of the serial(minus the action/adventure) cliffhanger and would have been disappointed had the author not gone that route. As for books 5, 6, & 7, each book is a standalone as it centers on a different couple but it really needs to be read in order in my opinion. Although I have featured Morticia Knight on my blog before, this is actually the first of her writings that I have read but it won't be the last. As for the historical aspect, I loved the attention to detail that the author has done, it really helps add to enjoyment of the series.

Will Carmichael is the fun loving, free spirited, party boy of the acting world. He has had his fair share of lovers, and could probably get just about any man he wanted to be at his beck and call. Problem is the one man he truly wants, doesn’t want to have anything to do with him.

Andre’ Chenard is the quirky and intense director for Global Studios. He has his own way of running his pictures, picking the perfect cast and then molding them into the character. At first glance, he was very attracted to Will. But the young blondes nerves got the better of him, and Will didn’t put his best foot forward.

When Will takes a tumble at a bar one night, Andre’ is there and quickly assists. In conversations along the way, Andre’ learns that his first impression of Will was perhaps misguided. Andre’ sees an innocence and insecurity in Will that he missed the first time around. He decides that he not only wants Will in his next picture, but in his bed as well. And just when these two are learning how to walk around each other, family problems and misunderstandings knock their feet right out from underneath them.

A little something different about this story that sets it apart from the others in the series was that in concentrated more on the relationship between the two ML and less on the scenery. While Knight still makes sure to include descriptives that are key to the era the story is set in; the speak easy, the clothing, prohibition, the way people talked back then and so forth; this installment was more character driven. I love reading these books mostly because I can suspend time and literally picture the era in my mind when I’m reading.

There is passion, a bit of suspense, a dash of angst and a whole lot of love wrapped up in Casting Call. It was very engaging as well to see how Andre’ and Will responded to each other sexually. How Andre’ at one point used the sexual tension that radiated off Will when he was around in his favor for a shoot on set. I highly recommend this series to anyone that loves Historical romance novels, and each book delivers a little something different for each couple so that the reader doesn't get bored with tedious repetitiveness in the characters.

Please note that while this book can be read as a standalone, as someone that has read from start to finish in this series, I recommend they be read in order. That way you have the full picture of the world Knight has built in Gin & Jazz and get to follow all the characters all the way through. I’m very excited for the seventh and final book in this series. My understanding is Knight is going to give Roman a HEA as well!

I have been in love with this series since I started it, but this part kinda left me wanting a bit more. There was NOTHING wrong with the book itself, I think that what it might be with me and this book is that the characters, Will and André, were not 2 of my favorites in the other books. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved the story, but I wasn’t as invested in their story as I was the others.
I did love the lesson that we learn in this book, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Well in this case, a person. I did enjoy following along as Will was able to put André in his place throughout the story. Even when things seemed to be going well, Will would still voice his opinion and would fight for what he wanted.
I also liked being able to get into André’s head a bit more. He did have an important role in Jack’s life and career in the other books, and he was so influential that it was amazingly to be able to find out that he’s really like that. He doesn’t just play the role on the set, he is really like that.
Overall, I did still enjoy this book and I would re-read it in the future for sure!
