David Robertson et al., Keeneland: Reflections on a Thoroughbred Tradition (Harmony House, 2000)
Keeneland is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Not just because of the tree-lined drives, the stone buildings, and the majesty of the horses who run there, but because of the things Keeneland represents; it is, truly, a shrine to the horse. David Robertson and his cohorts in putting together this lovely reflection on Keeneland sought to do it justice in photos and essays, and they did a fine job.
Most of the book is photos, not just of the races, but of the people, the auctions, and, of course, Keeneland itself. The photos are complemented with three relatively short essays touching on various bits of life at Keeneland, all of which are quite readable.
Excellent for fans of the Thoroughbred industry, especially those who have not been lucky enough to find their way to Keeneland yet. ****
