Sister Alex Carter is seemingly a pillar of spiritual strength, working diligently in the ministry, trying to help everyone. But she has a secret, and as a result, she is unable to help herself. In fact, she is really a ticking time bomb. Although the one thing she wants more than anything else is to marry Deacon Joshua Bennings, a Bishop's son and the church's most eligible bachelor, she can't seem to escape the mistake from her past. So instead, she distracts herself with drama, striking a moral indictment against the church, competing with a flirtatious church sister for the man she loves, holding onto a job that's pulling her further away from the will of God, and trying to block an old lover's selfish attempt to expose her. As Alex wrestles to hang on to her spotless reputation, her pre-packaged life begins to unravel, bringing her to the brink of losing everything she has worked so hard for. Alex is forced to face not only her past, but her future, as well. Will she ever learn that through Christ, no matter how dark it gets, joy comes in the morning?
Ashea Goldson, a native NewYorker and Metro Atlanta transplant, is a multi-published Bestselling author and indie screenwriter, who has frequently been called a “kingdom writer.” Having a vivid imagination which always connected her to reading, writing, and storytelling from an early age, Ashea began her publishing career by writing for high school and college publications. Soon afterwards she received a BA in Communications from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. She also later graduated Magna cum laude and earned an MA degree in English /Secondary Teacher Education from The University of Phoenix. Although she has been an English teacher and advocate of literacy for over twenty years, when she is not in the classroom, she transforms herself into writer extraordinaire;it is then that she is able to fully indulge in her creative passions. As a Christian fiction novelist since 2008, Ashea has written many traditionally published works including The Lovechild, Joy Comes In The Morning, Count It All Joy, Let Joy Arise, Scorched, and When Kingdom Comes which were all released by Kensington Publishers. After writing numerous stage plays and skits for various events over the years, in 2009 she also wrote and produced her first film, Searching For The Right Thing and her first short film, pieces From The Bottom. Her greatest strength is the ability to create flawed characters, who while having ordinary challenges, are able to experience extraordinary victories; this allows for an inspirational yet relatable message. Additionally, she has been a powerhouse of characterization, spinning webs of mind numbing tales which pull the readers in by the heart strings. Yet Ashea’s writing skills do not end here. Ghostwriting has been equally as fulfilling; she has been able to use her immense imagination to transform her client’s voice and vision into a literary reality. She has written for the following genres: Christian fiction, Urban Fiction, Ethnic Fiction,Women’s Fiction, Romance, young adult fiction, and Memoir., and has delivered breathtaking manuscripts to anonymous clients all around the country. Beautiful novel. God really used this author to discuss a topic that has been coming up in a lot of Christian Fiction novels that I've read lately--abortion. The main character, Alex, struggles with her never-ending guilt over a decade-old abortion. Her inability to receive God's forgiveness--which He has already given her--causes her to remain stuck in all areas of her life. Her being stuck ultimately begins to stifle the blessings she has in her life, including her upcoming marriage to Joshua, a Deacon in her church. Joshua is a man of faith who also struggles with forgiveness. Issues from his own first marriage cause him to be unable--or unwilling-- to move forward. Ms. Goldson does a wonderful job using each character's stories--as perceived through the narrator's, Alex, viewpoint to send a message that God forgives, heals, restores, and blesses as often as we ask Him. It's when we can't receive what God is willing to provide that we run into trouble.
Wonderful read. Made a tough NY broad like me cry. :-)
Joy Comes In The Morning was an book about getting over past secrets and issues to move forward. In life we all make mistakes but it is learning from the mistakes that make us better people. Alex Carter must come to terms with a lot of her issues if she is going to take on her role as Mrs. Joshua Bennings. Alex will meet obstacles that are a force attacking her faith and her self-esteem as a person.
Definitely not my cup of tea. Alex was a devout Christian with a secret. Her twin was the complete opposite. Alex met a guy and was quickly engaged. Alex allowed her past mistake hold her future hostage.
Excellent story, Alex has a secret that only she, her twin, and God knows about. Alex has met a man that she truly loves and wants to marry, but she is afraid. We must remember, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Whatever trails that you have been through you must forgive yourself, we serve a forgiving God. Just remember to repent and pray!!!
This was an excellent book, a page turner! This book had such a powerful meaning. I loved the contrast between the two twins Alex and Taylor. I'm looking forward to reading book two and three in the series!
