This is a book was gifted to me by my mother when I turned 20. Its a book of advices a mother gives to her daughter. The title can be translated as "The scent of the heart lasts longer than the scent of perfume from Paris". It is written in numbered advices 1 through 413. Each advise is given a quirky explanation of 2 to 3 sentences. It takes you through the journey of becoming a woman. The first section is advice a mother gives to her daughter as she is growing up. it has advice on how to dress and how to present yourself as a young woman that is to be respected. The second section is to a young adult. A mother reminds her daughter that her mind is her most powerful asset. The third section is to a new wife and young mother. Advice is given to her on how to be a friend to her husband and her children. The forth section is on how to form lasting relationships. The fifth section is on how to disregard rumors and watch what you say. The sixth, and final section is on how to be a confident and strong woman. This book was poetic in its explanations. They seem to have a hidden message. For example, advice number 321 said, " Clocks. Hang lots of clocks around you. You will realize how precious time is". The tone was warm and inviting. You can hear the voice of the author. She really thought about who she was writing to. She wanted to voice the part of all mothers talking to their daughters. Her purpose for writing this book of advices was clear. She wanted to deliver the message of a mother. I have this book on my dresser all the time and read it over and over again. Not necessarily from cover to cover but to whatever page I happen to open to. It is full of lifelong meaningful messages that comes from someone who truly cares for you. Because my mother gave me this book, I feel like she is giving me these advices personally. In this way, a writer can mindful of not only the audience but the purpose of writing.
