i'm disappointed... (and sad to be)

if you know me, you know i'm a huge admirer of Woolf and still, i didn't know much about her work as a journalist. I didn't know she created a family newspaper as a child, got her first paid as a journalist, wrote many articles about the Brontës (!!) and dedicated time to journalism thoughout her whole life, in addition to writing and edition. So i was super excited to read about all of that!

and still, after reading this, i still didn't learn much... The first chapter about the birth of journalism in her life and her family heritage was super interesting. And the last chapter about journalism as activism was great! Virginia Woolf wasn't an outside activist but she strongly defended political causes such as feminism and pacifism through her literary work, especially as a journalist. For example, Geneviève Brisac (French writer and lover of Woolf) believes that Woolf's suicidal was also political, due to the rise of Hitler and Nazism.

but the whole essay was very long, repetitive, only quoting sentences from her articles and didn't say much about it, which was very frustrating.
it's a double shame because i went to a literary event with the author and i loved listening to her, she was so captivating to listen to. But not to read apparently... (also the misspellings in this book??!)

nevertheless, the sources and bibliography are insane and i can't wait to go read Woolf's articles and connect with her in another literary way 🩷
