I really loved this book. First of all, awesome cover. I'm not sure I'd agree that MOST of us were raised by emotionally immature parents, but beyond that, there's so much great information here - from attachment styles to growth/fixed mindset to how to set boundaries, pretty much everyone could get something useful from this book.
The author makes this heavy topic very approachable. I appreciated that she included space to reflect on our parent's upbringing. I do believe that each generation tries to do better, and I'm doing this work to be an even better parent for my kids. In the chapter on Reclaiming Personal Power, I liked the distinction between self-confidence and self-esteem. Though I wish the book included more guided prompts for engaging in the work - but I guess that's what therapy is for!
This book is a helpful read for anyone who has dealt with lingering issues from a difficult upbringing. It digs into the effects emotionally immature parents can have on you, even long into adulthood. The author gives practical ways to start healing and reclaim your life. especially the sections on setting boundaries and practicing self-care. Overall, this book is empowering and I think a lot of people could benefit from reading it.
This book is so well written and compassionate with hints and tips to how to navigate toxic family systems and change your life for the better in future
I know some people who have parents that act like children. And they have to be the parent. Role reversal. They have to get away from their parents when they get older. It is a shame. Great book.
