Rate this book
'A whiff of mystery, a dazzling contemporary romance and a poignant love affair... [this] could well be McCabe's best work yet' Irish Independent

She thought she knew the men in her life...

Sandy Devine is a young woman who appears to have everything - a stellar media career, a stunning penthouse apartment overlooking Dublin's River Liffey and, after some stormy setbacks, the perfect romance with handsome A&R man Sam Ross. The pair are the envy of the Dublin social scene and it looks as if Sandy's future is bright.
But when her mother's health declines and she has to be hospitalised, Sandy discovers a letter in her mother's personal belongings, which unleashes a long-hidden family secret that forces Sandy to question everything she once took for granted.
As Sandy sets out on a voyage of discovery that takes her from Dublin to the Costa del Sol in search of her true identity, nothing can prepare her for what lies in store...

After my last read I wanted a light chick lit book and picked this up because it sounded interesting. Whoever settled on the name for this book and the blurb on the back has done it a disservice. Although the scene is set in the prologue for what will happen later, the letter doesn’t come into it till about three quarters of the way through the book. For much of the book very little happens. I’m not even sure why I kept reading this. I didn’t like the characters. They weren’t convincing. Sandy’s mother comes across as a lot older than she actually is and Sandy annoyed me. Then all of a sudden a couple of crisis events occur close together. But they don’t really add much. As for the ending. Oh my stars! Really! Even if you like light chick lit I would give this one a miss. Or maybe this author and I are just not a good mix.

This is one of Kate's weakest books I usually really enjoy her books but this one failed to impress me it's set mostly in Dublin. It's called the Spanish letter but the letter isn't mentioned until close to the end!!! The book doesn't go anywhere until near the end either it's drags on before finally picking up in the last 60 to 80 pages. Not for me at all.

Really dreadful. The story line was flat and the writing soulless.

I chose this book because I've been to Marbella before There was a LONG set up before we get to a letter in the title I thought the characters were good and it kept me interested.

I have never read Kate McCabe before so didn't know what to expect. Read it quite quickly but looking back found some of the data a bit unbelievable. I would be the same age as Sandy's mother and reading it I thought that her mother was portrayed as a feeble elderly lady as was the lady she met through the book club. Also when Sandy realised her accountant did a bunk she happened to have the funds saved to pay her debt. A bit too predictable for me but I guess I would class it as a light holiday read.

This was an excellent book got you involved in the story right from the start the letter comes with many twists and turns it's amazing when a letter is found where it leads. A book that leads you on a journey but one well worth taking you up for the journey ?

I liked the general storyline but as a 54 year old reader, I found the main character's mother who was 52, was written to be more like someone in their 80s. I also wasn't sure if I like the main character, Sandy. She was very inflexible and didn't seem to have any sense of humour

Not one of Kates best books. The story never really got going until 60 pages from the end.

There was a good enough story to it, however I thought the main plot would have happened much earlier in the book and it would develop from there, rather than almost at the end
