It’s actually so crazy that it’s possible to make a comic about a sport and have the illustrations do it justice. Especially with the eyes. I really like Haikyuu as it doesn’t overly prioritize teamwork or individual skill, like a lot of other fictional sports media do. It shows them both being equal and separate. Also, being able to make dozens of unique characters each with their own personalities is pretty impressive. Each one is also developed fairly well too, even if they are a side character. Something that I thought was really well done was showing that not everyone had to “go pro” to be successful and happy, even if they had the potential to. Additionally that there are many different paths to success, and the way you traverse that path can be different from another. It really shows that if you work hard and intelligently, doing the things the way that is the best for you, things will work out in the end. I think that’s a positive message, and it was told in a really entertaining way.
