A Ranger to Ride With is an origin story of Nate Stewart, or the beginning of an origin story. After tragedy hits Nate joins up with the Texas Rangers. The Rangers teach Nate about shooting, riding, and everything else needed to bring justice to the land. I really enjoyed the details of his training; it’s something that is glossed over in other Westerns. I expected a little more plot though. The story is wrote more like the beginning chapters of a novel rather than a fast paced short story. I suppose a good way to view this book is to consider it the first episode of a series. The Rangers in the story are well written and give you the sense that they are a close family, which is how I expect it was. They do seem overly friendly and kindhearted but that fits with the traditional western style. The good guys are the best of the best and the bad guys are the worse they come; there is no grey area or anti-hero types here. I’m looking forward to reading the next instalment of this series.

Good story

A coming of age story, where he needs to grow up fast. This first story is well written and sounds true to life.

Lost in the west

A good book to take you from the world we live in today to a time when good men stood for what was right and didn't worry about political correctness
