Getting Boys to Read – Quick Tips for Parents and Teachers by Mike McQueen www.AMzn.to/1iudTfi
Mike McQueen wrote a book that I think will be useful for teachers and parents as a tool to help inspire boys (and girls) to develop and continue their passion for reading. I bought this book because I was inspired by Mike McQueen’s enthusiasm, drive and ideas. I read this book from front to back because I was hooked. Mike packs this book with fantastic suggestions for getting boys (and girls too!) to read, expert opinions linked with even more ideas, useful teaching and parenting tips, honest advice, and he additionally provides further information on his website that includes book recommendations and videos for parents, teachers and children to watch. Can’t recommend this enough!

I love the format of this book as much as the content. As a professional educator, so many of the books I read are steeped in pedagogy and centered on data. And frankly, they are not fun to read! This one is different. It's structure is light and fun. While the content is solid and based on the author's real world experiences. The actual tips are practical every day things that we can all easily do to encourage all kids (not only boys) to read. But, I also enjoyed the interviews with many popular children's authors they add an indisputable element of expertise and a unique perspective for parents. If you are looking for good ideas for getting boys to read, this is a must have!
This is a great book for parents and teachers to read. It is clear and concise. Parenting tips are clearly indicated which makes this an easy read for parents who have struggling male readers or parents who would love to help their sons and avoid any reading difficulties.
