Hey, I’m Hil, author of The Golden Fleck Series.

I'm passionate about high quality reads for great, avid readers.

I’m a Lancashire Lass with a most dubious claim to fame—I almost killed Stephen Hawking while furiously pedalling to a university lecture I was woefully late for.

Born in Preston, in the land of Wallace and Gromit, my love for my northern roots often surprises and amuses my husband.

Originally a teacher by trade, I spent years creating impromptu stories for my students and sketching cartoons of my cheeky spaniels, all while weaving tales of adventure.

It was during a long recovery from a herniated disc that the Golden Fleck series unexpectedly took root. Frustratingly confined to rest, I took my mind on daily virtual runs with my spaniels through the nearby woodland and, in that tranquil space, I imagined magical portals — a key element in my stories.

A homeless young woman named Annie mysteriously came into my mind and my curiosity was piqued. What made her choose that life? My conversations with her led to the development of Annie’s character and she soon become the heart of the first three books in The Golden Fleck Series.

When I’m not writing and having conversations with characters who reside in my head, you can find me practicing yoga, reading, attempting classical guitar, or dancing around to my favourite songs like no one watching.
I'm a believer in the power of stories, the joy of running my dogs (no longer virtually!), and the importance of always staying curious.

This is book 2 in the Golden Fleck series and is a coming of age, YA, romantasy. In book one Annie found herself in another realm, full of magic and Fae, and monsters galore! At the end we saw Annie undertaking a mission to take her new friends back to the human realm to try and track down a stolen amulet That is needed to save the Fae realms from dying. However, all is not as it seems as there are secrets and side missions that not everyone is aware of.
I read book one and loved it so I was really looking forward to this one, and I was not disappointed. So this book picks up exactly where book one left off and Annie and her friends have journey to the human realm in order to save the Fae realms. I am really enjoying this series, I love Hil’s writing style, I am so invested in Annie‘s journey, and that of her friends. I love the dynamics between all the different personalities, and how their friendships develop. There are some great plot twists and OMG moments, like that ending! I mean what the actual hell? I wasn’t expecting that. I need the next book like now! I need to know what happens next. This was a strong four star read for me and I would definitely recommend

Thank you to @lovebookstours and @author_hil_g_gibb for having me along again on the tour for the second book in the Golden Fleck series and boy did this one deliver!

We dive straight back into the action where The Dying Realms left us, and not a single moment of the book drops the pace! Once again, Annie's comments had me laughing out loud, and I loved the progression in the relationships of the main characters. I particularly enjoyed their journey to the human realm, with the Elves encountering human transport and police having some truly laugh out loud moments, alongside the heart in the mouth ones!

And can we take a moment for that absolute BANGER of an explosive ending! I was sat reading on the edge of my seat to get to the end! The Worst Deceit is an accurate (and some!) title and I cannot wait for the final in the series to see how this all ends!

✨ The Worst Deceit (Golden Fleck #2) ✨

I really enjoyed book 1, so I couldn’t wait to see where Annie’s journey went in book 2. This one picks up right where the first left off, and Annie is opening a portal. Her and her friends head into the human realm to track down the stolen amulet.

I really liked seeing Annie grow into her powers (yes, she can now portal and throw palm bombs) and the way her friendships with the group keep developing. The banter, the loyalty, the struggles keep you turning the pages.

There’s a lot of action in this book. You will fight shadow elves, hide secrets, and have a side mission to save Carric. There are plenty of twists that you won’t see coming. And that ending… what?!? No way!! It left me needing the next one asap.

This is the second book in the Golden Fleck series and I was so excited to find out what was in store for Annie and her friends after the cliff hanger in 'The Dying Realms'!
'The Worst Deceit' starts with action straight away, pulling you in to the narrative.
I really enjoyed this book, especially the relationships between the characters, making them easy to root for. I love how fast paced and action packed this series is as it makes it a very enjoyable read.

While sometimes I have found myself tutting and finding Annie's actions silly and childish, I have to remind myself that she is 18, of course I think and would act differently to her, I'm 35!! 😂😂
Another hit from Hil, bring on Book 3!

After reading the first book I couldn’t wait to delve back into the Golden Fleck series with this second book.
I was not disappointed, this was a hard to put down full of action read. A few twists I did not see coming in this book, I love the writing style of this series plus the humour flows really well into the story.
The book picks up from where the first ends so I’d definitely recommend reading in order to get the most out of this series.
A great YA fantasy read for adults too, I cannot wait for book 3 although sad also as the last in the trilogy.

Great!

I really enjoyed book one and I was eager to see what awaited us in book 2. After reading this book I now understand why it's called The Worst Deceit, my goodness! I was not expecting that at all!
I really love the way this novel is written, it gives you everything without being too bogged down, reading each chapter makes me eager to read the next and it has me in a hold of anticipation. I loved the direction it went in and I loved the character growth. That for me was great, the characters grew realistically, their development from book 1 to book 2 felt organic and really paced the storyline. The storyline moved with such ease too and I really loved the flow, as I said above the twists and turns were fantastic, that ending left me reeling.

A book that I was excited for, and one that did not disappoint. The Worst Deceit is book 2 in The Golden Fleck series and continues right where book 1 ended. Annie is back in the human world, with her new fae friends this time, on a mission to save the world. With a book title like that though, readers are certain to encounter plot twists they never see coming. There was character growth, adventure, and an easy pacing that made this story a joy to read. Another ending that has me anxious for the third book.

The Worst Deceit by Hil G Gibb. The Golden Fleck series book 2.
This was a really good read. I am enjoying this series. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I loved the writing style and the story. It continues exactly where book one finished. I devoured this in two sittings. I couldn't put it down. I did not see that coming. That did surprise me. I did like Annie. I was shocked by the ending. I am really looking forward to the next book. I do recommend this series.

This book two in the Golden fleck series and I would recommend reading book 1 before starting this book (both are available on kindle unlimited) as it continues on from where we left off. I adore epic romance fantasy books, I'm a big lover of world building and this was a fun world to delve into. I liked Anna, I found her to be really relatable and her struggles felt very real as we follow along on her journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of the series but was so eager for the next instalment after its ending. I quickly got back into the story which continued where we'd left Annie and her companions after entering into the human realm.

Annie has a lot resting on her shoulders for such a young woman. She must travel to Pendle, following the leads to retrieve the Labradorite Amulet. Prince Carric is also never far from her thoughts.

The story is interesting with plenty of action. I also love the little bits of humour running through the story. Especially poor Annie having to try and explain some human inventions!

The story took some turns I wasn't expecting. I'm really intrigued to find out how the trilogy will conclude.

The Worst Deceit is the second book in The Golden Fleck Series and we continue the inspiring journey from where we left off in book one.

I was hooked from the first page as we followed the journey of Annie and her friends through the human realm to help save the Fae realms. In this book there were some incredible plot twists that you don't expect and kept the storyline exciting and kept you wanting more.

I'm so excited to carry on with this series to see what comes next on this amazing adventure.

A highly recommended read, which I would definitely recommend for readers to read.

Now I haven't had the opportunity to read the first book in this series but that did not discourage me from reading this captivating story. I just adore the character Annie and her ability to take whatever life throws at her. No matter how dangerous the magical situation she manages to put on a brave face and follow through with what she is doing. Overall in my opinion that plot was very exciting and easy to follow along with. I will say I was quite impressed with the direction this novel went in and I hope I get the opportunity to read more books related to this series.
