Gabriel is a secondary school teacher who spends his free time living the double life of a YA and MG author.

Daddy to a tribe of small children, and a keen surfer and snowboarder, Gabriel loves travelling to snowy or beachy destinations, and reading horror and fantasy novels.

The idea for his debut novel, YA horror WHITEOUT, came to him whilst leading a Sixth form ski trip to the wilds of Austria and wishing a horde of vampires would descend from the trees and devour the students who weren't behaving.

His new book, MG horror SHIVER POINT : IT CAME FROM THE WOODS, is the first in a series from Piccadilly Press. Due out in September 2023, it mixes scares with humour, and references Gabriel's love of classic horror films from the 80s and 90s.

The Shiver Squad is back for the next adventure.

For Oli’s birthday, they all decide to go camping and have a great weekend watching horror movies. The night before, Oli tries to scare them by telling them a horror story.

Oli’s dad agrees to take the bunch camping and have a great bonding experience all together.

The first night Oli thinks there is something out there. Someone or something is walking the campsite at night. But since Oli is such a prankster nobody believes him.

The next morning Oli’s dad is gone. The Shiver Squad follows some footsteps into the forest and will have to try and find him and solve the mystery before it is too late.

I really appreciated the new take on werewolves. While the other leaned into some of the tropes, there were elements added that made this story quite unique and entertaining.

I wish I could have seen more of the relationship between Oli and his dad but he disappeared too quickly.

Overall a great read and creepy enough also for adults.

The Shiver Squad are back! This time Oli, Riley, Alex, Sophia and Mo are going camping with Oli's dad in Howlmoor Forest, with plans to watch scary films and toast marshmallows on the campfire. Oli can't wait to tell his friends some scary stories to freak them out, like the scouts who camped there and got eaten one by one....but then Oli sees a monster outside his tent that night and no one believes him...until they realise his dad's went missing....

Gabriel Dylan has done it again, I don't care that they're kids books they're utterly fantastic and I love them!

Devoured it (much like a monster from the woods would) in two days and I can't wait for the next one to come out. Highly recommended, buy it for Hallowe'en!

This is a really good, well thought out book.

I read this to my ten year old daughter. The story was immediately interesting and the characters likeable. There is definitely a little bit of thriller/suspense vibes which was just as exciting and interesting for me as an adult as it was for my daughter. I have not read a children's book like this to my daughter before and I think it has opened up a whole new genre for her.

The story follows a small group of children who go camping by some woods. The main character loves scary stories and tries to scare his friends, and then realises there's actually scary stuff going on for real...! All the children have their own personalities and individual traits which make them believable and easy to distinguish. The chapters are a good length - I read a couple of chapters a night. The story is well paced and I could not predict where it was heading - how were they going to stop what was happening?!

I would recommend this book to both genders and probably for 9-11 year olds - depending on how scared they get by stories!! I will definitely read more Shiver Point stories.

This is the perfect read for a cosy autumn night! I’ve just sat down and absolutely devoured this story and I’m going to be honest with the wind howling outside and the fire crackling I did feel a little creeped out in placed despite the fact that this is a children’s book. If you’re after something fun, fast paced and kinda spooky this is definitely one to pick up. It’s a story of fun, friendship and bravery but ultimately it’s a tale of the spooky things that lurk in the woods. I’m intrigued to read the rest of the series now as this friend group is giving me all the famous five and found family vibes that I need from a story and the creepiness was perfect!

A good book with some great moments in. Again it was brought together in a natural way. I just for some reason didn’t enjoy it as much as the others.

Welcome to Shiver Point! We are back! This time we are going camping with a dash of howling and a nice moon shining brightly~

🌜 Loved that this one focussed mostly on Ollie! The first book in the series was all about Alex, the next was about Riley, and now it is Ollie. Of course we also get the POV of the other kids, but the main focus is Ollie. His birthday. His dad. I love that and I am curious to see who is next of the group, we still have Mo and Sophia left! Given that so far it’s been boy, girl, boy, I am guessing Sophia!
🌜 The cover is just perfection, I love that in these covers you can also see who the main character is of the group, whose story it is.
🌜 I mean seriously, why do people want to stay in Shiver Point? So far we had spooky scarecrows desperate to get what they want, aliens, and now apparently the whole freaking forest is one big well don’t go there place. I guess most people just tend to not look/forget?
🌜 I love that we are going camping, and that the place of camping is a place named Howlmoor Forest (which is just the perfect name and already gave me all the spooky vibes).
🌜 I love that the author didn’t wait around, but instead things immediately go spooky/scary the first night! There are spooky howls in the night, and I was just so full of goosebumps and wanted to hide so badly when that walked around the tent and was sniffing around for someone to take/eat. shivers I am glad that I haven’t gone camping in a while, otherwise I would have seriously reconsidered, haha.
🌜 Things really got scary. Just like with the other two books the author isn’t shying away from making it terrifying. I thought scarecrows were bad, but this story I was just constantly terrified and on the edge of my chair. The werewolf was just so scary, not to mention many chase scenes, and scary moments happening. shivers
🌜 I hope Ollie has learned not to bring out spooky stories before going camping, haha. Because as we could see his friends didn’t believe him the first time (or at least most of them didn’t and the ones that did were hesitant), aka the boy who cried wolf. I don’t blame them. If my bestie would talk about a scout troop being eaten by something monstrous and the first night he would say something happened? I would also be like, sure man, now go to sleep. XD
🌜 I loved seeing the Shiver Squad do their best to save Ollie’s dad, think up some fabulous ways to do so and kick some werewolf ass in the progress. Even Mo has some great ideas.
🌜 The last part of the story when the full moon was rising and things were getting very desperate/dangerous. Well, I loved that part, though again, it also terrified the wits out of me.
🌜 The titles to the chapters! A lot of books go for numbers, but this one had words describing in a way the chapter.
🌜 That librarian! Yep, she pops up again and is here to help the squad. I love that she knows what is up and tries to help the squad as much as she can. By cryptic advice, plenty of books, and some hints. I would definitely love to learn more about this character.

All in all, I am excited that the next book is releasing in just a month! One advantage of having had to wait for this book, haha. I would highly recommend this one (and the whole series) to everyone! If you are in need for something spooky/scary, be sure to check it out!
