okay read

Past lovers reconnect but in all honesty I found Eva’s character immature, abrasive and unlikeable. Bit of a glory seeker and why her ex wanted to reconnect with her wasn’t really clear. Any was just okay.

The Healing Properties of Forgiving Love

As young med students, sharing the challenges of their studies for the almost 5 years, Ava Winters and Roman Quinlan supported and encouraged each other in their endeavors. And over those 5 intense years, the beautiful blue-eyed, auburn-haired Ava and the tall, handsome blue eyed Roman became more than friends and supporters, they became lovers.

But, as they moved towards their residencies, both setting their sights on the same prized residency in surgery, tension emerged. And when Ava’s undeniable brilliance was honored with the award of an endowed residency in cardiac surgery, Roman was proud of his classmate and lover’s achievement. But he was personally disappointed that he had been overlooked.

And while Roman was personally saddened and disappointed by having that pathway closed to him, he was especially plagued by his mother’s scathing reaction and denunciation of Ava’s achievement. What him hurt most was his mother’s constant comparison of him to his older brother who had followed a medical pathway focusing on infectious diseases. And, when Roman chose pediatrics and surgery, Mom didn’t appreciate or value Roman’s choice—the field simply didn’t provide enough reflected glory for her ego.

So now, years later, the former lovers, Roman and Ava, are reunited at Mercy General in Vancouver where Ava’s brilliance as a cardiac surgeon has brought honor to herself and to the hospital. Roman has recently found his pathway to Mercy as a pediatrician who is also a skillful pediatric surgeon providing valuable skills when in rotation in the Emergency Department.

Now, for the first time since the young lovers parted over career competition, proximity of employment has forced Ava and Roman’s worlds to reconnect. And when Mercy Hospital’s Chief compels the former friends and lovers into contact, he unknowingly forces them to combine their time, energy and skills—but not in a medical arena. They are tapped to organize the hospital’s fundraiser for King George House, the residence used by out-of-town families when a family member is receiving treatment at Mercy.

The fundraiser is held in June, and this year, it is the cardiology department’s year to co-host the event. And the Cardiology chief, Dr Warner, wants Ava to represent the department. And while Ava’s not experienced in this type of activity—organizing a fundraiser—she is willing to try. And she is especially motivated when Dr. Warren shares that the event is a passion project of Charles John’s, the hospital’s CEO—a great connection to develop for her career—like becoming the head of the residency selection committee.

But the past and the present seem to merge when serving as co-chairs of the Mercy fundraiser forces former friends and lovers to reconnect, again revealing the feelings of both Ava and Roman. And now, age and experience allow the young lovers, still single professionals, to better understand and respond with new insight and understanding to the qualities that pushed them apart in the past. Now, with the wisdom gained from the past, the two can work to support each other rather than fleeing the challenges of a relationship.

Again, Grace Maxwell offers her readers another delightful tale of Mercy Hospital—the staff, their friends and family. While each Mercy romance can be read as an engaging stand-alone tale of the successes and challenges of working at the Vancouver hospital, Maxwell offers a collection of related Mercy friends and family in the Men of Mercy and the current series Mercy Medical Emergency.

God this needed to be longer! So much was missing! I loved the fact that they were together and in love and both heartbroken for the five years they were apart-
Working at the same hospital, Roman and Ava were on the same committee for months planning and getting ready for a 1920s themed fundraiser… then we don’t even get the night of the fundraiser on the pages except for the first few minutes- i was like wtf!?!?
Ava went from being cold and hurt and resentful throughout the whole book to totally changing on the last page -
2 steamy scenes🔥🔥

The story line flowed

Although the story line flowed it didn't have that song that make you believe in the characters. Not much depth and everything was too easy. A fairy godmother waved her wand and everything materialised, as if by magic, and that's what this novel needs, a little magic. For me that is. I enjoy a tangled web of emotions in novels, but I do understand that many readers like to keep it light. If that's the case, then this is a read for you.

Absolutely. Perfect!! This is a beautiful second chance at love for Roman and Ava. He walked away from the best thing in his life when his pride was hurt. After years of living with regret he has the opportunity to make things right but of course nothing in life is ever easy. 🖤🔥⚕️🔥🖤
