Secrets are fragile, and temper is a ticking time bomb.
As Eliza prepares to return to Kentree Institute of Magic for her third year, she's forced to confront the darkness within. Her explosive outburst has put the entire witching community at risk, threatening to expose them.
With the delicate balance between witching folk and non-magical people hanging by a thread, Eliza takes a daring gamble. Will recruiting talented young witchlings hold the key to a brighter future - or will it fuel the flames of her ambition, risking everything she holds dear?
This is the third and final book of the Kentree series. The first book, Kentree's Stolen Souls, is a cozy introduction to a world where magic is as real as taxes. If you like magic, witches, dark academia, talking cats, and gardens, this is a series you won't want to miss.
You were told you could be whatever you wanted to be, to shoot for the stars and you would land on the moon. The problem is, when you've been shooting for the stars, landing on the moon feels like a disappointment.
Enter our author. Angelique Iles grew up on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, and she dreamed of having an exciting fantasy filled life with magic, fairies, and talking black cats. Imagine her disappointment when she found herself working a safe job with a pension and no cat or pixie in sight.
Instead of accepting her fate in the mundane world, Angelique pulled out her dusty laptop and crafted a story as nostalgic as it was new. A story where anyone could discover they belonged to a world of magic, even long after their eleventh birthday. Since then, Angelique has begun working in an animal shelter part-time, and escaping into her writing is almost as good as the real thing (though she is certain magical creatures live in her garden).
Concluding the trilogy following mature witch student Eliza Paladin during her time at Kentree, this is a much less 'cosy' story, as befits the progression of Eliza's attitude and education in witchcraft. A character I didn't expect to see again returns, and one I thought would did not (which pleased me, as certain actions could have been due to them but I felt the story was better for there being simpler reasons for them). The narrative flows smoothly, and the plot is both exciting and not easy to predict (always pleasing!). Eliza also masters transforming into an animal, but I won't spoil it for you as to which.
Great read, highly recommend the whole trilogy. I hope we shall get further adventures in this world in the future.
I cannot believe we've come to an end with Eliza's story. It has been incredible to watch her grow from a starry eyed "witchling" to this vengeful anti-hero. This story isn't like any I've read before. So many books will advertise as having a 'villain' as a main character, but most of the time they change for good. Here we slowly watch Eliza unfold as power takes hold of her. There are many things I would like to say I would do differently but in truth if I was in her shoes? Would I have the power to have self-control? Or would I be like Robyn and run as soon as a real fight begins? It's scary, as I can imagine these events unfolding if witchcraft ever were to be real in our world. This book mirrored much of what goes on in the world for anyone who is different, and that in itself is a terrifying thought. I am once again so glad that I came across these books, I can't wait to read what else is in store for us (perhaps Avery's story? or Faye?).

I greatly enjoyed this book. The whole series had great character development and growth, of the female lead.
I do think the author could make a fourth book, focus it more on Kent and the ideas he brings to teaching magic in England.
I am a sucker for a bit of romance, there wasn’t much in the story but all the characters were well depicted and over the three novels their growth was amazing to follow. It felt like you were at Kentree with them.
I did not see the direction this novel took coming! I was so immersed in the story, the characters and their emotions that I couldn’t put the book down! It has definitely left me thinking the persecution that many over the years have faced because of their choices to be connected to nature, and healing through natural remedies and a knowledge of sorts. It’s sad to see these behaviours transfer throughout the centuries and that they are still so predominant in today’s society. Truly a remarkable read!
*This series gets better and better as it goes on. Recommended for fans of Buffy, Sabrina, and Harry Potter*
In fiction, school life is always a metaphor. Education is a form of maturing, character growth structured by the pressure of lessons and all the other things a student must deal with—especially at a magical institute. The best school-centred fantasy series use their setting to explore ideas around maturity, legacy, and identity formation alongside the kinds of questions the fantasy setting poses: What are the limits of magic? How can it be used in the right way? How does using magic affect the protagonist and the people around them?
Kentree's Wicked Witch does all this so, so well and more. I don't even want to say too much about it, as it'll ruin the many twists A Iles has in store for her readers, but what I do want to say is that Eliza's character development is incredibly satisfying from what has been set up in previous instalments, that the story develops in both a logical but also intriguing way, and that this is one of the most relevant contemporary Fantasy stories I've read in recent years.
