She's got style, a witty sense of humor, and a winning smile!
But of course–she's Angie!
Parents all have certain goals in common when it comes to success in parenting–to prepare a child for a loving and fulfilling life of independence and choice. With humor, compassion, and love, De Minner tells the story of raising their son and daughter with her husband Bob, through all the trials and tribulations seen with nearly every child, including some special twists required to navigate unforeseen challenges and overcome the stigmas of raising a child with Down syndrome. The outcome from this connected and caring family environment is by anyone's definition a true success!
Angela Marie, an individual born with Down syndrome received all the care and guidance to create that success. She and her younger brother, Joe had a great childhood peppered with the usual rivalries, companionship, and milestones, along with many more adventures and misadventures most of us would never encounter. Angie is an adult with room in her heart for plenty of love, generosity, and simple pleasures along with an amazing talent for subtle and not-so subtle humor.
De quotes her husband Bob, "Before she was born, I prayed for a perfect child. It took me a while to realize we got exactly what I asked for."

When I opened De Minner's book about her daughter, Angie, who was born with Down syndrome, I kept waiting for the bad part. Yes, there were struggles, scares, disappointments and tears. But there was also an incredible amount of joy, wonder, laughter and tenacity in the face of adversity... just like in every family. Minner's worries for her daughter and her family have their own specifics, of course — but the love for a child and children, each with their own gifts and personalities, is universal and shines through in this book. I celebrate Angie! And this amazing, essential read for parents everywhere.

Full disclosure: De is a friend from high school. She went on to become a medical technician, have two wonderful children with her husband of 40+ years, and became an RN along the way. Their older child, Angie, was born with Down Syndrome. This is the story of life with Angie. “She’s got style, a witty sense of humor, and a winning smile!” I found it hard to put the book down. De is an excellent writer & story teller, and I’m so impressed with her and Bob’s parenting skills with Angie and their son, Joe! I had to smile as I took in De’s grammar & punctuation that are just like my own English usage. Those are lessons drilled into us over and over during our school years.
