In collaborazione con l’autore, 001 Edizioni ha selezionato il meglio della rivista e lo propone ora al pubblico italiano, in una coloratissima veste grafica, fedele all’originale. Questo “Best of” contiene tutti i saggi scritti da Alan Moore, sui temi della magia, dell’anarchismo, della fantascienza, dell’editoria underground, di Burroughs, della possibilità di vita extraterrestre e molto altro, oltre alle immancabili biografie degli “hipster” che hanno fatto la Storia. Come autori collaborano anche grandi nomi tra cui Melinda Gebbie, Calluz, Kevin O’Neill, Mitch Jenkins e Claire Ashby.

He has also written a novel, Voice of the Fire, and performs "workings" (one-off performance art/spoken word pieces) with The Moon and Serpent Grand Egyptian Theatre of Marvels, some of which have been released on CD.
As a comics writer, Moore is notable for being one of the first writers to apply literary and formalist sensibilities to the mainstream of the medium. As well as including challenging subject matter and adult themes, he brings a wide range of influences to his work, from the literary–authors such as William S. Burroughs, Thomas Pynchon, Robert Anton Wilson and Iain Sinclair; New Wave science fiction writers such as Michael Moorcock; horror writers such as Clive Barker; to the cinematic–filmmakers such as Nicolas Roeg. Influences within comics include Will Eisner, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Kirby and Bryan Talbot.

Dodgem Logic was Alan Moore's (and gangs) attempt to great an underground magazine that had local roots for North Hampton and international appeal. It was to take likeminded people (largely anarchists, malcontents, etc.) and collide ideas together to see what happens. And to touch hearts and minds...inappropriately.
What often resulted was a mess, often glorious but generally floundering. There were merits of good ideas, i.e. baseball cards of "Great Hipsters in History".
It was also started by Moore, but meant to passed along--which often did not happen and when it did, was met with sub-par results.
Part of the magazine collapse--was Moore's agreement to work with the Gorillaz on a John Dee opera, which Alan would provide the libretto for, and in return to Gorillaz (mainly Jamie Hewlett) would create material for the magazine. This never happened...and a sales started to slip, Moore saw their holdout as something that helped contribute to the project's untimely demise--as their input could have increased sales.
Ir was part art collective, part Screw Magazine, part Tijuana Bible, part name drop of ZAP/Robert Crumb and Paul Krassner, part Arthur Magazine, part Fortean Times, Part Whole Earth Catalog, Part Dr. Bronners, part cereal box prizes, part Private Eye, part Anti-Nuclear Bomb magazine, part Mad Magazine, part Feral House, part Savoy Books.
All these parts ultimately failed to make a whole, and I found my self often skipping entire parts of a magazines, only to read Alan's contributions (or Melinda Gebbie, Dr. Feelgood's, Kevin O'Neill, Steve Aylett's). I didn't care of the community garden of North Hampton or someone's attempt at emulating Beat poetry in 2012.

Fuori da ogni logica!

Premetto che se non avete, mai, nella vita letto qualcosa di Alan Moore o non ne
avete mai sentito parlare, ecco forse non riuscirete a godervi a pieno questa chicca.

Ma cos'è che the best of Dodgem Logic? Lo dice la parola stessa, il meglio di Dodgem Logic.
Si, ma cos'è Dodgem Logic?

Alan Moore, alla fine del 2009 diede vita ad una SUA rivista, moooolto underground,
con vene di anarchismo e sfumature canzonatorie.

001 edizioni ha portato in italia il meglio di degli otto numeri della rivista.
All'interno si trova tutto cioò che ci si può aspettare da una rivista, ma direi fatta molto meglio.
Ci si trova saggi sul femminismo, una guida per fare l'orto, una lista dei più grandi hipster della storia e anche deliziose ricette di zuppe.
Ma si parla anche di Burroughs, di musica, di fantascienza e di niente.

Si, di niente, o quello che nell'immaginario comune potrebbe definirsi futile.

The Dodgem of Logic è un intreccio di serietà e di frivolezza.
