One of the great kings of southern India during the mediaeval period was Raja Raja Chola (985-1014). During his 30-year reign he extended and consolidated an empire that spanned the seas. In fact, his reign witnessed the beginning of Chola maritime power with interests in Lanka and Sri Vijaya, which comprises modern Java, Sumatra and a few other islands. He was also reputed to have sent trading envoys to China by land. His claims to greatness are many. He was a patron of art and letters. Some of the finest Tamil poetry was written during his reign. Philosophers of all religions were encouraged with the result that many literary masterpieces of the Buddhist, Jain and Vaishnava faiths were penned during his rule. Being a devotee of Shiva, he paid special attention to the Shaiva philosophers and poets, the most notable of whom was Namri Andar Nambi. Under his patronage, Chola bronze sculpture and architecture too were at their best. The grand Raja Rajeswari, temple in Tanjavur, as well as other smaller temples of great beauty were built to commemorate his coronation. Raja Raja Chola was a king who was peerless as a soldier and a scholar.
A very short portion from the story of Raja Raja Cholan...
Not a complete story of Raja Raja Cholan... Its just an introduction and that too short and surface level. Of course this is not a history book, but there could have been a mention about the great Brgadeswarar temple which should have given kids a glimpse of history.
Excellent book as it has all the major details of the great Chola king Rajaraja who was one of the greatest rulers of the dynasty. He built a mighty navy, imported the best horses from Arabia and had the best men in his army. The fate Aditya Kari Kalan met at the hands of Nandini and Uttama Chola was well deserved because he attacked an unarmed king when he had no weapons and when he was retreating. This book was great and I totally recommend it.
Historic collection #3/10 The third book i selected is about someone who is destined for greatness "Raja Raja Chola". To be Frank the book is the worst piece of comic that no one should read. The comic looks like not a true story and seems that the writer read Ponniyin Selvan in a drunken state and was completely confused. The comic is neither a true story of Raja Raja Chola nor the comical version of Ponniyin Selvan. It is just a piece of sh*t if you would have read most of our tamil novels. In addition, even without thinking of any such things and if we keep our mind as fiction, still it seems to be nonsense work. The title is about the greatness of Raja Raja Chola but the essence is about how Aditya was murdered and how Kundavai got in love (those were anyway wrong as well). It is an example of how such novels are creating a bad example to the kids as comics normally have attracted more towards the underage category. I don't want to talk about who has written it and who has illustrated it as well since i hate this book due to false information. The front cover has no relevance or incidence connecting in the book. Already I felt that INR90 for a 32 pages comics is a waste of money and in addition the complete travel of this book confirms that to me. Not sure whether I can rare Zero since the comic is full of false information and hence i am forcing myself to give an unsatisfactory rating of 1 out of 5.
There's a fair distortion of history here. Painting some characters in colors they were not. Distorted timelines. It's to be read to know how distorted ACK's presentation of history tends to be. This is not the first time this is seen in ACK.
