Purple Saffron - the shadow

She askes as she lays her book down pretending she had even read for the past fifteen minutes. I know she wanted to continue her story for she seemed anxious while fiddling with the pages. I put away my magazine and pull a shawl over my shoulders. I am all ears now. Something tells me the next chapter is the best time she had ever had in her life for she seems excited to tell. And so, not a moment is wasted and I'm rewarded with a touching story.... ...in a diary about an India woman who drifted along with dreams and promises and a life worth living.

A good read, the book was on my shelf for a long time decided to read it and it was good I like how writer described Rome, very beautiful, a heartbreaking love story of Alisha and Berto. The other character's story is also very interesting - Meera, Chancal, Shabana, Muneera all are very powerful women in their own ways. The Harmukh Valley, described so beautifully I wish I could visit a saffron field someday. The book makes you question that - Is destiny a result of desire or everything is written and we are just playing part in it?

The story is of friendship, joy, heartbreak, feud, greed, family, love and every other thing a human being goes through the life, the novel is a perfect getaway for someone who longs for travelling with friends but couldn't, the book perfectly captures the beauty of the valley.

PS: Author's name is Vasanthi Vijaya.
