This is a classic of first person narrative - where the choice of perspective becomes the message.

Well-written and with an interesting premise, but ultimately too long-winded and slow-moving for me. (And what is up with this author's bio from his university page: "His most recent publication "The Classics of Comics" can be found in the August 1997 edition of U.S. Airways Attaché"????)
