Frankenstein's Bride: A Classics Retold Dark Romance

Rate this book
The mature content of this book is meant for readers ages 18 and up. This isn't your grandma's Frankenstein (unless she likes spicy things; in which case, get it, Grandma)!

In this dark romance retelling of Mary Shelley's horror classic, Frankenstein, The Creature's revenge plan against his creator takes an unexpected turn. This is NOT a monster or paranormal romance novel.

Adam Roberts is your typical college smart, unassuming, and dedicated to his work. Everything changes when his house is set on fire and he almost dies as a result. Once he discovers who tried to kill him, his plan for revenge is set in motion. Unfortunately for him, his plan is thrown into chaos when he meets Grace Lavenza.

Grace has married Victor Frankenstein, her childhood best friend, despite not having romantic feelings for him. She has no idea of the horrible crimes Victor has committed and lives in blissful ignorance of his true nature. She's resigned herself to this marriage out guilt and hopes that one day, she will fall in love with her new husband. Fortunately for her, that plan goes out the window when she meets Adam Roberts.

Trigger Warnings Kidnapping, Dub Con/Non Con, Pet Loss, Torture, Primal Play, Arson, Murder, etc.

I can't find any fault with this book. My one friend read it in a single sitting, and I almost did, too. The spice is nice and plentiful. The story doesn't meander on trivial things and keeps the pace quick and fun. If you're a fan of the dark romance genre, you will love this book. The love story between the two leads is also quite touching.

spicy retelling

A great dark romance novella with some banter. The pace is accelerated but not instant love since it is spanned over a month. I appreciate that the spicy scenes use biological vocabulary instead of code words. The only context that was off-putting was that occasionally conversations would have awkward lines breaking the mood.

If you like dark romance that's not too super dark, this is a good book for you! I'd rate the spice as 3-4 chili peppers. There's a good balance with the plot.

It's the story of Frankenstein, but modernized and spicy. Like with her other book, you don't need to read the original for this to make sense. Be sure to read the trigger warnings, though, because there is pet loss, which can be upsetting. I will say, in regard to that, the loss of the pet sort of starts the revenge arc of the MMC, sort of John Wick style, so it's not superfluous or just in there to be there. It has a purpose.

Speaking of triggers, if you like kidnapping, primal play, CNC, and a masked, morally grey MMC who tortures people and strangles a guy for whistling at the FMC: say hello to Adam! He's obsessed with Grace (FMC) the moment he sees her and takes her for himself despite the fact that she just married another man, the very man who tried to kill him. There's a little bit of suspense at times, but nothing unbearable if you're like me and get anxious for the characters in the story when they're in danger.

Five stars! Give it a read!
