"The Unity Tree" by Jennifer Sodini is a whimsical muse on cosmic consciousness that seeks to show the reader that we are all "branches" on the same tree of life. Driven by dazzling illustrations by Richie Brown, this book's ethos is enveloped in the notion that love is the ultimate teacher.
About the author, Jennifer Sodini:
Jennifer Sodini is an innovative entrepreneur, writer and student of spiritual enlightenment. Her grandmother taught her Tarot at the age of 8, and submersed her in the mystic side of art, music, culture, and spirituality.
Jennifer was inspired to write The Unity Tree, after spending time in the Jungle of Costa Rica's Guaria De Osa with the Secoya Elders. She found the lattice of life bound by Universal love and understanding. We may have our cultural differences, but the path and message are all the same.
Jennifer resides on the beach in New Jersey, with her two Cats (Ziggy and Peach), and her silly dog (Misha). She spends her time running EvolveandAscend.com, providing spiritual nourishment and information that inspires you to THINK.
She also enjoys exploring the depths of the internet, finding the joy in discovering people weirder than her, or things to help you feel weird. Thanks YouTube!
About the illustrator, Richie Brown:
Richie Brown makes all sorts of paintings, animations, doodles, and doo-dads. He currently resides in New Jersey where he spends his free time eating pizza and watching The X-Files.

She also co-authored The Modern Nirvana Oracle Deck (Chronicle, 2022).
Beyond her own publications, her work has been featured in a variety of outlets such as Cosmopolitan, Oprah Daily, Rolling Stone, Vice, Sounds True, and Maxim. As a producer and project guide, Jennifer empowers creators to ground their visions into material realities, providing strategy, structure and experience, all the way from ideation to publication.
A devoted student of the Mystery, Jennifer splits her time between Los Angeles and Mexico, where she continues to nurture her spirit, mind and community through the joys and perils of love, parenthood, pop culture, esoteric philosophy, muppets and cats.
My children and I love this colourful and thoughtful book, which opens with the most beautiful dedication. "For it is through the darkness of the evening that we are able to see the stars. Without this darkness, we would never get to experience the beauty of the cosmos, or understand the little bits of light in life that shine through the void."
That alone should be enough to tell you that this book is something different.
My two under 4's adore the illustrations - humorous and bright yet with complex layers and meanings, which are brought forth in discussions the concepts explored stimulates. Its a gentle read but with depth and perception, a refreshing change from the slough of gender specific "children's books" with garish explosions or saccharin platitudes.
A fantastic example of #WhyWeNeedDiverseBooks which I'm sure will prove of interest to all ages, and grow with the reader in their understanding of collective consciousness. After all, we are all connected.
Every page of this book my 2 yr old wanted to stare at and talk about, the illustration is so unique I found myself just as caught up with it. Reading it was delightful as the words danced with the cheerfulness of such a positive message. All the while it was calming and the illustration and rhythm of the book kept my 8 month from fussing while we waited for his bottle to be ready. My daughter will most likely pick up again and again and I look forward to keeping it a staple. Great teacher gift, and I honestly recommend to other parents for children of all ages as the message pertains even to us adults, as well as so relevant for children. LOVE this book.
"Rise upward and onward; learn to live and let love. Let happiness take flight, and if life gets tricky, always rise above."
"Open your eyes, and let everyone be free. Free to be you and free to be me."
Jennifer Sodini has crafted a beautiful, spellbinding book, that drew me in from the first page. Though it is written with children in mind, it is a book for every age. Its message comes through powerfully - Love rules and love connects us all. A truly positive, affirming and beautiful book; highly recommended.
There are so many books for children out there that are simplistic and aren’t designed to be anything more than brightly coloured. This offering from Jennifer Sodini is thankfully the complete opposite. This book is not only brightly coloured and engaging for children from a young age, but filled to the brim with important values that all young children should be taught. The Unity Tree is also the perfect form for parents to help introduce their children to these values. Ranging over the ideas that anger, intolerance, hatred, resentment etc are not helpful emotions that often lead us down paths of self-destruction and not only are negative but also unnatural. It brings out the ideas that we are all part of what the Lion King called the Circle of Life, but Jennifer Sodini calls the Unity Tree. This books is great for children to read on their own, but there will be questions that children have about the content of this book, meaning it is ideal for parents and children to discover together and even challenges parents about some of the emotions that their children see in them (be warned there could be moments of ‘But mummy, you were *insert negative emotion* this morning when you couldn’t *insert frustrating everyday situation*’) This book certainly does not believe in talking down to children, in fact it challenges the way they think from an early age, allowing them to develop their own opinions without brainwashing them to taking the media popular stand point. From children who are just wanting to have stories read to them to those who are able to read for themselves, this book is something that can be embraced by the whole family and you may find your seven year old teaching your four year old by reading this book and trying to explain things to them.
The Unity Tree: A Whimsical Muse on Cosmic Consciousness by Jennifer Sodini.
While this is classified as a childen's book, the message contained is appropriate for all ages. It's as if Dr. Seuss woke to a cosmic epiphany. I LOVED it & highly recommend it to everyone in touch with their inner child.
I'll only share two quotes: "We can imagine how to create and be creative on a beach in a cosmic sky. No grain of sand is merely just sandy; with imagination at hand the sand can become whatever you fancy."
I was entranced by Richie Brown's colorful images. The little green Buddha lying on top of the tree especially appealed to me. The first Ganesh image levitating & towards the end of the book, peeping around the down-turned page made me smile out loud.
Last shared quote: "Friends come in all colors, all cultures, all creeds, and even if someone seems different, remember The Unity Tree."
Visit The Unity Tree & bring back some of its knowledge with you into your life. I hope you will find it as charming as I did.
This is a perfect children's book for this new age of enlightenment. I love the openness and oneness the book inspires. Very insightful!
Our first experience with the book: The book arrived right before we were taking our son, age 12, to the emergency room. So I took it with us and read it to him while we were waiting for the doctors. He was struggling to breathe at first (from fluid in his lungs) but as he listened and visualized what the book talked about, he was able to calm his breathing and obtain an overall sense of peace with the situation.
