I found the title of this book to be very intriguing. Although I enjoyed the enormous wealth of knowledge that Sheri Laine shared, her concepts on proper nutrition, rejuvenating exercise, meditation, and nurturing relationships didn't offer any new theories.

As someone who received successful acupuncture treatments for knee osteoarthritis, I was inspired to learn more about this ancient alternative therapy. Sheri does a beautiful job of explaining energy and its location in the body; her descriptions are easy for a layperson to understand. She succinctly details the origins of acupuncture in America, the training that is involved to become an acupuncturist, as well what to expect during a session.

I especially appreciated how Sheri thoroughly illustrates all the issues one may experience during a session, such as nerves and blood vessels getting pricked, pain when the needle is being inserted, and possible increases in symptoms that eventually subside. When I encountered my acupuncture sessions, I always thought something was wrong with me because although many people claimed to not feel the needles, I most definitely did, and I also always experienced pain during my treatments that were relieved after I informed my therapist. Even though the pain was short-lived, I never could fully relax during my sessions because I was fearful of pain during and after. But, I endured, and my knee issues have definitely been under control for over a year! I was so glad to read that all the physical issues I faced during my therapy are absolutely normal.

This book has given me the encouragement to seek acupuncture again to alleviate other health issues. Sheri’s 28 years of experience as an acupuncturist has allowed her to “open a window” into acupuncture that educates and captivates the reader. I would recommend this book to all fans of alternative medicine, as well as those interested in learning more about acupuncture.
