Can every problem be fixed? Who do we turn to when we are in need?Song has it a thriving business that practically runs itself, a circle of loyal friends who would move mountains for her, and a luxurious house perched high above the picturesque city of Tucson, Arizona. That is, until a single phone call shatters her reality, dredging up memories she had buried long ago. As an old flame is reignited, Song grapples with overwhelming feelings. Her heart is torn between the past and the present, and she questions if she still loves the boy who once brought her out of the darkness.
C. Ward’s latest novel Interchanges stays on the path forged by Edge Pieces: the trauma that comes from war and how it impacts relationships. It’s tough stuff, but so critical to understanding veterans, because they are people that surround us in our lives.
Another great work by C. Ward! This author is proving to have some amazing talent, especially when it comes to character development. She writes in a way that makes you feel that you personally know the characters on a deep level. And man does this book pull on your heartstrings. You can feel her passion for the story through her writing, and her knowledge of the veteran versus civilian experience of military and post military life is on point.
The story of Song and Mike is absolutely heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Seeing them grow up both having their own stories of trauma and hardships of life while their relationship develops, falls apart, and comes back together again was such a roller coaster of emotions. I felt them all and loved every minute of it.
The author does an incredible job delving into some of the realities of PTSD and the baggage that our service members deal with after serving our country. The sacrifices they make and the lifelong affects they struggle with is felt throughout this beautiful story, and I love seeing both sides of the coin with the view from Song’s side as a civilian trying to help her loved one.
I highly recommend this book! It was a quick, enjoyable read that had me invested from the first page to the end! I honestly wish it would have been longer!
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy and the opportunity to read your work with no expectations attached.
I consider this book to be an important read for families with loved ones experiencing PTSD. It's not a topic talked about enough and this story does a beautiful job on the subject; as well as general depression.
It's also a story about being a first generation American and the struggle to fit in when you come from a different culture.
