City girl…

When Samantha Winters’ career as a big-city doctor leads to major burnout, she applies for a temporary position at a small clinic in central Pennsylvania. She’s as out of place in the town of Oakridge as a pair of high heels in a cow pasture, but that won’t stop her from going after what she wants. And what she wants most—after rediscovering her passion for medicine—is a family of her own: a loving husband and kids.

…meets country boy

Alex Kane is the local boy who made good. He’s spent years building his computer start-up into the biggest employer in Oakridge. Between that, and raising his sister’s orphaned kids, he’s ready for a break. What he really wants is to cut loose and have some fun. Too bad the new doc in town isn’t interested…. Or is she?

I loved this book and I read it in one afternoon. It was hard to put it down when I had to prepare dinner but I quickly got back to it and didn't stop until I was finished.

Samantha Winters, a doctor from the big city, has major burnout after being sued for malpractice and surviving a broken engagement. With advice from a friend she decides to take a two month sabbatical and accepts a temporary position at a small clinic in Oakridge, Pennsylvania. At 32-years-old Samantha is ready to settle down and start a family.

Alex Kane is a local boy who made it big, very big. He chose his hometown to be the headquarters for his multi billion dollar company after the death of his sister when he was given custody of her two children. Being close to home, a place he did not want to return to, became a necessity for him and his young charges. Friends and neighbors were more than willing to pitch in and help with children. Now that his niece is in college and his nephew will be entering university in the fall, Alex is ready to cut loose, party and have an all around good time. Commitment and kids were not in his future. Been there, done that.

When Alex and Samantha meet, neither can deny the sparks that fly and they are instantly drawn to one another. Their future wants and needs are in complete opposition to the other. What will they do when they find it impossible to be apart?

I rated this book 4.5 stars. It was an excellent read and I highly recommend it.

I really enjoy Jill Blake's method of storytelling. After reading this book, I actually feel more knowledgeable about the tech world as well as the medical profession. I really liked Ms. Blake's first book, Pursued by the Playboy, so I was glad to get the opportunity to read her second book in the Doctors of Rittenhouse Square series, Taking a Chance.

Samantha Winters is a primary care physician with a lot of heart. She takes great care of her patients and expects them to follow the medical advice she provides. After the settlement of her pseudo malpractice case, she decides to take a break from her primary practice position in an affluent section of Philadelphia, and look into other options to share her medical expertise. She finds herself accepting a short-term position in an urgent care facility in the small town of Oakridge, Pennsylvania.

Alex Kane is a successful businessman that transformed his braininess into a multimillion dollar conglomerate. He grew up in Oakridge and now his company is its largest employer. Alex's foundation owns the urgent care clinic in town. In addition, he raised his sister's kids after her death. So needless to say, Alex is a hard-working and dedicated man that believes in family and giving back to the community.

Sam and Alex are attracted to each other from the moment they first meet during Sam's interview. They fall for each other quickly and completely, however, a few obstacles must be hurdled in order for them to have a happily ever after.

This is a well-written, intelligent story that I enjoyed very much. I am familiar with Philadelphia and as a result, I felt a kinship with the story when landmarks, restaurants and street names were mentioned. Ms. Blake creates likeable and smart characters that are fun to read about. The plot moves along at nice pace, which allowed me to think about some of the situations the characters were involved with. Overall, a solid read.

Book received from author in exchange for an honest review.

Opposites attract, or do they?

Dr. Samantha Winters is on the burn out track and her friends convinced her to take a sabbatical from her practice in urban Philly for a temporary job in the sticks.

Alex Kane gave up city life when his sister died and retreated to his home town to raise her children. That's not to say he's any ordinary Joe, he's actually the founder and CTO of a major software company based in Oakridge, PA.

Sparks fly when the two meet, and ingnite in a wonderful night of passion. However, Sam quickly learns that Alex is only looking for Ms. Right Now. Even if he were looking for long-term, he's very definite that he's raised his family and isn't looking to start over. Sam wants it all, but will Alex convince her that's he's enough?

This story is about Samantha Winters, a family doctor who is flirting dangerously close to burnout, and Alex Kane, a jaded millionaire. They meet when Samantha comes to the small town Alex calls home as a temporary doctor. I love how the author really gets the reader into the heads of both the hero and heroine. Plus, she includes the medical details without being too technical or overwhelming. I have actually reread this story several times since I first purchased it. I’m still finding more things to like about it. I strongly encourage anyone who enjoys contemporary romance to read this one. While it is the second in a series, it was the first one I read. I couldn’t tell that it was part of a series. After reading some of the other books in this series, I see how they fit together. I was given this story for free by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. However, after I got it, I realized I had just finished reading it. So I reread it and bought the next one. And no, I can’t say what my favorite book in this series is. That would be like asking me my favorite candy.

Another winner from Jill Blake!

I really enjoyed Jill Blake’s first book, “Pursued by a Playboy” (yummy hero, strong heroine), so I was very excited when “Taking a Chance” came out.

I read it in one sitting, it was that good. The writer has a sharp eye for detail and a good ear for dialogue.

Both the hero (Alex) and heroine (Samantha) are at a turning point in their personal and professional lives. She’s a doctor who’s suffering from burnout, he’s a computer whiz who’s stuck in a career rut. She’s looking for the white-picket fence complete with husband and kids, he’s looking forward to being an empty-nester after having raised his niece and nephew.

The author makes their journey from the edge toward a happy ending both engaging and believable. Plus, some of my favorite characters from Jill’s first book show up here in bit roles, which made it even more fun. I can’t wait for the next book to come out!

The second book in this series and its wonderful. I loved it! I can't wait for the third! THis story had a much different story line than the first and I am always happy when a series can do that and still keep up with the series.

I was happy to be updated on previous characters and given a small peek into the future of this series. I loved the new characters and I loved the banter and relationships between the characters of this book.

Alex is wonderful. He is the perfect country boy turned millionaire. Sam is the perfect city girl looking for an escape from real life. The surrounding characters are great though we don't get to see much of them.

A great romance and for once no major tragic endings or disruptions. A really easy and beautiful read. I was on the edge of my seat (and for once not biting my nails but relaxed.) Just wonderful.

Love this book!! Romance for the thinking gal!

Sam, the heroine, is a burnt out doctor from Philadelphia, who takes a temp job as a small town doc in central Pennsylvania. The man behind the job is our hero, Alex, a yummy down-to-earth guy whose computer startup hit the big time, and who has spent the last decade-plus raising his niece and nephew.

The problem is that Sam's biological clock is ticking loud, and she wants to settle down and start popping out kids. Like now. Preferably back in the big city.

Alex, on the other hand, is looking forward to being an empty nester, and cutting loose. And did I mention he actually likes living in a small town?

As an added bonus, characters from Jill Blake's previous novel. Pursued by the Playboy, keep popping up (remember Izzy, the chatty sister?). Sounds like Izzy might get her own novel in 2014--can't wait!

If you like smart, sexy women and strong (but brainy) alpha men, this book is for you!

This is the second in the series, but absolutely stands on its own - you will just want to read more about these characters and their families!

Again a very well written story which flows smoothly, with both Alex and Sam giving us insights into how they feel as the romance unfolds. Again the side characters provide us with back story and we get to find out how friends made in the first of the series are progressing.

In need of a heartwarming, intelligent romance? This is just what the doctor ordered!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This was a short enjoyable story. Both leads are strong, intelligent and sexy and the story is told from both points of view. The characters are adults dealing with adult issues of career, love and life. Nice romance and a few steamy scenes. A good read all round. If you are after a short romantic read I'd recommending Taking a Chance.

When Samantha needs a break from her practice, due to legal issues, she goes to a small town two hours away. There a small town is in need of a general medical doctor. She meets the town boy who made good and founder of her new practice, Alex. His players way is not what she is wanting in her life. She is wanting a man who is ready to settle down. He has raised his deceased sister children and wants his freedom. Two who want each other but...who will change the other's mind. Jill Blake's books are easy to read.
