I picked up Bullion expecting another WWII thriller, but Christopher Kerr delivers something far more unsettling a story that made me question what I thought I knew about history's "good guys."
The way Kerr connects a family inheritance to a massive international cover-up kept me turning pages late into the night. What really got under my skin was how he implicates modern banks and institutions we deal with today in the Nazi gold laundering scheme. It's fiction, sure, but the forensic research feels disturbingly plausible.
The pacing is relentless once the investigation kicks off, though I'll admit the financial details occasionally bogged down the momentum. Still, the core mystery where did all that looted gold actually go? hooks you from page one.

Christopher Kerr doesn’t merely ask what happened to Hitler’s gold, he forces the reader to confront who may still be benefiting from it. The narrative is meticulously researched yet paced like a modern conspiracy novel, making complex financial history feel urgent and personal. Kerr writes with moral conviction, and that passion is impossible to ignore.
